Seattle Gets One More Cupcake Shop

Posted by on Fri, May 15, 2009 at 1:43 PM

1041/1242419991-chocolate.jpgThe Yellow Leaf Cupcake Co. opens today. Because that's what Seattle needs, right? Another cupcake shop! But even in the saturated market, their menu impresses me. They'll have nine different flavors available everyday, rotating from a menu that includes Tomato Soup, Neapolitan, White Chocolate Raspberry, Cookies 'n' Cream, Root Beer Float, French Toast, Green Tea, and more (there's over 30).

They'll also have muffins in the morning, and tea and Victrola Coffee all day. They're located at 2209 Fourth Ave in Belltown and open Mon-Fri 7:30 am-5 pm, Sat 9 am-5 pm.

I haven't gone yet, but I plan on stopping by after work (and maybe if you go today or this weekend, you'll let us know how it is?). Personally, I'm okay with another cupcake shop. Especially if their Tiramisu cupcake turns out to be as good as it sounds.

UPDATE: I just talked to Mike at the shop and he confirms that they have sold out of cupcakes. "We were so busy this morning, you'd think we were giving away gold. It's an awesome thing, but it's a little embarrassing at the same time."

They hope to have more this afternoon, after 3:30 or so he says, and they'll also be catching up tonight to re-open again in the morning. I'd get there early if you plan on going tomorrow.

A co-worker of mine says that they've sold out of cupcakes for the day. You might want to call ahead before stopping by.

@2 Tomato Soup cake has been around for decades. It's basically a spice cake, I'm told. But I've never tried it.

@1 You're right, they're out. They might have more after 3:30 this afternoon, though. But it won't be the full selection they had earlier (understandably).

I still have yet to actually go to one of these places for a cupcake, but have walked by the one on NW Market many times. Is it worth it, for my already wider waist?

Another cupcake shop that specializes in being out of cupcakes? They'll have a hard time beating Cupcake Royale in that regard.

Tomato soup does not sound appealing to me... I'm not sure I've ever had a savory cupcake I've liked. And not for lack of trying...

Why is there nowhere to get a pumpkin cupcake year-round? And yet tomato soup is allowed to exist at all? This is a travesty.

Tomato Soup cake is so good. My nana used to make it when I was a kid. If you like pumpkin or zucchini bread then I guarantee you would like tomato soup cupcakes.

One more cupcake shop and we can co-opt another trend from NYC.

Currently, we have "hula hooping" as the current long-running trend in NYC that is seeping into Seattle.

Know of a good place to get cupcakes in Seattle? Megan Seling likes the Yellow Leaf in Belltown.

Do you have any ideas?
