"What are the terms of an open relationship?"

Posted by on Thu, May 14, 2009 at 2:35 PM

Jullian asked Questionland for some advice: "What are the terms of an open relationship?"

Ellen advises: "Generally the first rule (and this is all anecdotal since I am monogamous) is partner primacy. The partner you're in the open relationship with has first dibs on you, and you consider their needs and feelings ahead of any other partner."

Marty, having had some experience with it, says: I preferred the "don't ask, don't tell" policy and she preferred the "tell all" policy. We compromised. I told her about my relationships only when she asked and she told me about hers only when she really felt a pressing need to."

And O my captain warns: "Beware, take it slowly. Make sure you know what you value most...the relationship or the freedom... or something else!"

Maybe you have some good insight to offer? (And if not, maybe you know a good protein supplement for Eric?)
