Ellen Forney just sent me a press release. It reads:

dd27/1242332701-drifttable_lorez.jpgCafe Racer was suddenly left without an art show for this next month, so Friends of the Nib, a club of amateur and professional cartoonists, came up with this brilliant last-minute idea: everyone in the group would bring in five to fifteen drawings on paper, any medium, to be hung chockablock all over the walls with pushpins, priced to “fly into your arms” (as low as $5 and no more than $50).

Esteemed cartoonist Jim Woodring "hand-selected works from his archives with modesty and grace," Ellen Forney brought in a bunch of original ink illustrations from the Stranger and the Rocket, Bob Rini and David Lasky contributed works in ink and watercolor, a pack of Nibsters sat in the back room and drew on paper bags - altogether over 150 drawings are now packed onto Cafe Racer's walls. As Jim Woodring points out, "You'll find diamonds in the rough, and garnets in the slag."

Opening party May 14, 7 - 9pm
Featuring God's Favorite Beefcake

The idea of being able to buy art by Jim Woodring and Ellen Forney for less than fifty bucks is mind-boggling to me. If I wasn't going to Slog Happy tonight, I'd be heading to Cafe Racer with a fistful of five-dollar-bills. And I'll still make a point of stopping by sometime this week. I could use some new art, and the show is up until June 16th.
