Because Marriage Needs Protection

Posted by on Thu, May 14, 2009 at 3:33 PM

State Representative Matt Shea (R-4) is so eager to protect marriage from gay people that helped found the new group Protect Marriage Washington. But Shea has hardly been a good steward of the institution—so it's a little ironic he's trying to protect the sanctity of marriage. The Spokane County Clerk's office identified 44 pleadings related to a knock-down, drag-out divorce with his ex-wife, Lisa Shea. Among those pleading are three temporary restraining orders filed against Matt Shea in 2007 and a protection order. A clerk, who said I would need to go to the Spokane office to actually see the documents, mentioned that in one declaration, Lisa Shea claimed Matt Shea "flat-out lied in many respects" about his role in alleged domestic abuse. The Spokesman Review detailed some of the scandal last summer:

Matt T. Shea’s wife, Lisa, was granted a divorce in January after complaining that he treated her “as a possession,” and was physically and emotionally abusive.

She said Shea insisted she walk on his left side because his sword, if he had one, would be on his right side. He said he knows nothing about that, but as a courtesy would walk between her and traffic.

Lisa Shea’s brother-in-law, Tino P. Vargas, swore in court documents that he saw Matt Shea yell at his wife, grab her arm “very hard and violently” and push her into a vehicle.

I can see why Mr. Shea trembles at the specter of more marriages.

Oh come on, this guy is PERFECT to defend marriage. Old testament-style marriage that is.

After he deals with the gays, he's going to take care of women, too! After all, the bible very firmly states a woman's place.

That'll learn'em.

What kind of a twat wears his sword on the right side? A military sword is worn on the left. Most soldiers are right-handed.

Also, it is traditional for a gentleman to walk between a lady and the road, to protect her from splashing muck.

God, when even the douchebags don't even know how to be douchebags properly, what have we come to?

At this point, I'm suspicious of any person who takes an aggressive public stance against marriage equality. There are just too many stories like this one. If marriage needs protection from anyone, it's folks like Rep. Shea here.

Meh.

Divorces are messy and disgusting. The dirtiest of them are full of lies on both sides. Walk into the King County Courthouse and find an ex-parte court. Restraining orders are handed out like candy because only one side presents evidence.

Wait, he made HER walk on the left side, and said he was walking between her and traffic? Only if you're on the side of the street facing the oncoming traffic, dumbass. Nice asinine rationalization, there. He's a whackjob.

You really can't even mock the state Republicans anymore. This is what happens when you purge a party of nearly all the semi-sane people. They are imploding from crazy.

Wait, his rationalization doesn't work no matter which side of the street you're on! He's even dumber than I thought!

No offense to gay sloggers but this is the sort of thing that puts people off, it makes you seem egotistic. Washington state offers pretty complete civil union benefits, we don't need these sort of attacks on pro-marriage defense people. Our nation is hurting and there are far more important issues than this.

@11 in case you missed what we were talking about with the "Washington state offers pretty complete civil union benefits" line is that Shea is trying to take CIVIL UNIONS away from the gays because they are immoral. This makes his own marriage up for discussion.

@11 Are you supporting an abusive fuckwitt because he is, as you call it, "pro-marriage." I think that the point here is that the "poster boy" is about as good for your so called "pro-marriage" initiative as Bristol Palin is for the anti-teen-pregnancy campaign.

@14: You're surprised Loveschild supports and shields abusers? What, you think that domestic violence is a problem or something in this country? We have more important things to think about, like protecting ourselves from the gays first and foremost.

We'll get back to you on the domestic violence thing after we've reviewed the relevant verses and chapters.

@11 No offense Loveschild but its people like you that make people like me ashamed to be straight and married and christen; comments like yours are "off putting" and make me hope that you die in a fire (as in your enitre church goes up in hellfire and is sucked back into the abyss from wence it came). But no offense...

@15 Nope ... just can't help but ask someone to have some perspective. Try having a husband/boyfriend/girlfriend/lover knock you around a bit and see where your support leans then ... wait ... her best pal JC wouldn't hit a bitch, would he?

It's all got to be 1000% (that's right- folks; one THOUSAND percent!) true.
Because there is never any exaggeration or distortion in the things people say in nasty divorce battles...

12 My bad, I thought this was a pro marriage defense group. I'm fine with domestic partnerships. My apologies to all slog identified lesbians and gays. Though I still think that if you don't like people discussing what you do in your bedroom you shouldn't do it to others even if you disagree with them.

All these people protesting gay marriage are terrified it will show their own relationships up as shallow and inconsequential. They are terrified of being compared to gay couples, because they know their relationships are will be found inferior and wanting.

LS, you need a couple of good bitch-slaps upside the head. You don't know your place woman, which is exactly four paces behind your man.

You do have a man, don't you?
