Quite the Pitch

Posted by on Wed, May 13, 2009 at 4:31 PM

Gary Randall—president of Faith and Freedom, carpetbagger, tax evader, opportunist, etc.—admits on his blog today that support for his anti-gay referendum is crumbling:

This is going to be a battle of, as they say, epic proportion, with many on the other side already declaring those of us who are defending marriage, dead on arrival.

Some whom we thought would support us have opted out. Words can not adequately express how very much we need your financial support in this matter.

Of course there's no message more encouraging to donors than saying your opponents have claimed victory and your army is toast.

Man. With the amount of time they spend asking everyone for money, you'd think they're fucking liberals. Or homeless (which he is, technically, in Washington).

If his group isn't leading the referendum and he isn't affiliated with Stickney, why is he still raising money?

Oh, right, he's going to get as much money as possible and walk off with it.

I understand the analogy to war - "fight" "battle" "victory" "army" - but what we have here is inevitable enlightenment. Success by attrition. Those who stand in the way of what is right will be worn down, inexorably. It might be fun to blow their heads off, but unnecessary. They will find other shiny things to keep themselves amused.

Strange as it may seem, "the bad guys are winning" is an underlying theme of most political fundraising pitches.

Don't think this one is going to be compared favorably with Henry V's "St. Cripin's Day Speech" any time soon.

I want one person to tell me how my brother's marriage to the man of his dreams, two years ago, has personally hurt another person's marriage. No? Still waiting.... Give up?

Told you.

Golly, these anti-gay marriage people are such drama queens. Nothing is ever a campaign, a struggle or even a plain old battle. It has to be a BATTLE of EPIC PROPORTIONS!!!!

What does epic proportions even mean? Considering the pro/anti split is arguably still pretty close to 50/50, the proportion is 0.5.

Shit ain't epic.

Well, I fucked that one up. Close to 1. The proportion is close to 1.

I guess it is epic. Relatively.

My life is a lie...

@12 I'll tell ya. Foreclosures have shot up dramatically. Unemployment skyrocketed. The Sopranos ended. My wife got a bladder infection. I gained 15 lbs. So there! Thanks gay marriage! Dammit!
