Questionland's New Features!

Posted by on Tue, May 12, 2009 at 12:36 PM

Questionland is a magical place.

There's a gnome and a mushroom and a bunch of friendly, smart people who will help you figure out what you can do on Capitol Hill for free, how to leash-train your kitty, or how to rejuvenate your dying sex drive.

And Questionland is getting better every day! Not only can you ask and answer questions and rate and comment on those responses, but now, you can also tag your favorite answers! If someone gives you a helpful answer, show your thanks by giving them a mushroom! You can also search for keywords, see similar questions that have already been asked, and see which questions don't yet have any answers.

For example, 12 days ago Kip Waddle asked "Where can I get buckwheat husk mulch?" So far, no one has known. Maybe you do?

So spend some time in the improved Questionland. Let's make Seattle smarter, one question at a time.

This is just a little technical question, but why can't your magical tech gnomes make it so we folks can gain access to the three different login-requiring areas with one login, rather than creating a new id for each one? I'm intrigued by questionland, but am getting stranger-login fatigue!

Probably because it's proprietary and they contract it, 1?

My only complaint is that I started using it by signing in with my facebook account, and now that little "post to my facebook" box appears, pre-checked, by every post, and I have to remember to un-check it. I tried to see if I could just log-in with my Slog log-in, but no. So to decouple Questionland and Facebook, it looks like I'd have to start a whole new Questionland account. All would be fine if that stupid box would show-up unchecked, rather than checked.

I'm just thrilled that in addition to my many fans, I now have an army of haters, and they seem to enjoy going to Questionland and, in the full glare of their 25-watt intellects, marking even the most innocuous of my answers with thumbs down. Right on!

A mushroom? What a bunch of hippies.

@4 I still think you're great, Fnarf. Your answer to my Seattle beaches question was my favorite!

questionland is a failure waiting to happen. quit trying to whore it out, Megan. Why don't you direct people to the forum instead?

Oh wait, The Stranger has a FORUM??? OMGWTFBBQ! When was the last time any of you 'writers' ventured in there?

muhdik?

So, is it proprietary or is it in-house?

My questionland Slog question is did you make it or do you pay for it?

@7: Dude, the Forum sucks.

How about making Questionland not require registration? Maybe then I'll bother.

Who drew those gnomes? They're so fucking adorable.

I'd ask at Questionland, but I don't want to have to !@#$ing register!!

Aislinn, the Forum USED to suck, two years ago. It's far worse than that now. It would have to improve a lot to merely suck.

It amuses me that people in this online community draw serious distinctions between the Forum, Qeustionland, and Slog. We need a cyber Red Rover game to introduce users to various facets of this site.

And yeah, we need a single login for all three. Hecht said they are working on it. I asked. See, Questionland is good for something.

With that said, here is my unsolicited and likely unwanted name for the users from each branch:

Slog: Snarkies
Forum: Solipsistics
Questionland: Stupids

I don't really get the purpose of questionland. Is it for real questions or is it just another silly place where people vomit uselessness all over?

Most of the questions I see there are pointless.

@13 While I think a lot of the questions are silly (to some) there are some real questions too. Like, I really did want to know about which beaches allowed bonfires, and which games people recommend for the Nintendo DS. It's just a fun way to interact with other Stranger readers.

Good point, Megan.

None of the beaches permit bonfires, if by bonfires you mean when we get fifty pallets, about twenty-five fire performers, and we make a night of it.

Sigh.

a forum is only as good as the people in it.

the forum would be better if the stranger supported it

I wish one could view who voted up and down on an answer.

Megan I know you are reading this so I'll assume your non-answer means the Stranger didn't develop it.

So, is it proprietary or is it in-house?

My questionland Slog question is did you make it or do you pay for it?

@20:

The backend of questionland seems to have been built by these people:

http://yousaidit.com/website/about

Their mailing address is in capitol hill so they've probably been in bed with the stranger to some degree at some point. But it doesn't seem to be an in-house project.

Note: the people mentioned on the above page also seemingly post to questionland:

http://questionland.thestranger.com/user…
http://questionland.thestranger.com/user…

Also of note is this posting from last year:
