Police should be on the lookout for current or former Youth Pastors near stations.
They pose a grave risk to society.

Did you see that Democrats refused to give Obama money to close Gitmo?
And why haven't they passed a law banning Waterboarding?

The unemployment rate will not go down in a meaningful way in 2010. Obama will be cutting back his stimulus before it's even had a chance to create jobs in time for the midterm elections.

Instead of talking about jobs, Obama and most of the rest of the Democratic Party will be talking about balancing the budget. That will mean that the cuts will go even deeper at the state level next year, until the Democratic party finds the political will to raise taxes instead of "starving the beast" for Republicans.

We have not/are not getting much Recession ending-job creating Bang for the Buck from the $2 Trillion we have already borrowed. By the time they figure out what to do with the money it will be too late/expensive to borrow more.

Yes, Slog missed the Swat story, the presidents of Afgh. and Pak. being here, today's announcement of our new general in Afg., and first unveilings of aspects Obama's health plan.

Gee whiz, isn't that a major reason he was so cool?

Early news this weekend was he wants a tax increase on the wealthy to pay for it (yay socialism); this is today superseded by a new message dominating the news, that lobbying groups who smashed health care reform last time are now sitting at the table and have agreed to save $2 trillion in health costs (lowering rate of increase of costs by 1.5 points over ten years.)

Very smart intro. The opponents can merely claim there's no sepcifics and the prospect of rationing like Canada is nigh. But they are totally undermined by the big nasty industry players sitting at the table with Obama. Who's against saving $2 trillion ? And leading with cost control speaks to everyone not just us commies who want everyone covered pronto.
Perhaps this Obama new approach will work, and perhaps the "creeping single payer" approach via including a "government option" will work. The cost cutting will include evidence based treatment which puts us on the road to "rationing" which is of course welcome. But it's smart to lead with "everyone's at the table and everyone's benefitted" rather than "hey we are moving to Eurosocialism" (even if we are, hopefully. After all there isn't one nation that's adopted nationalized health that then had a new party come into power and throw it out and go back, right? This is a govt. program as universally successful and unreversed, as having a school system, highways, utilities, an army, underground sewer systems and other communistic unfreemarket tools).

@10 - You mean you were amazed by how often players faked getting hurt to try drawing a foul call? I love the sport, but this tomfoolery can make it nearly unwatchable.

@8: Oh yes, which is why the banks are already in a good position to pay back the loans we gave them, with interest.

And why the construction shovel ready jobs have saved countless small companies.

Or how the government increased aid and has kept many people in their homes while the recession may have hurt them.

Or that the slowing of job loss is directly resulted from helping banks so that commercial paper was available to keep companies for collapsing.

Yeah, what a fucking horrible job the president has done in 100 days. Fucking terrible.

Or shorter: Wow, we have debt after the largest economic collapse second only to the great depression. You are sooooo fucking smart though! I bet you have great ideas to help the economy that won't put us in debt. Should we lower taxes some more, smart ass?

Deaths in Washington State caused by influenza:

2000: 1,005
2001: 960
2002: 907
2003: 1,082
2004: 737
2005: 926
2006: 810

(No stats for 2008 yet.)

I think maybe swine flu isn't really much worth worrying about in particular; seems like we might like better worry about flu generally.

Posting that Metro violence is on the rise seems a little sensational, considering "550 such reports were taken in 2008, a year when about 118 million trips were recorded." I'd suspect there's more unreported incidents, but that's a 1-215,000* chance you'll be on a bus when an altercation takes place. With a much, much less likelihood you'll be involved in the altercation.

*actually, that's a pretty rough way to do the numbers, but since none of you care, I don't either.

$2Trillion is a lot of debt, little girl.
Especially for one year.
We're way past the "saddling our children with crushing debt" stage-
We're in the "Obama saddling our Grandchildren with crushing debt to save his political hide" stage.
(all the unborn will be begging to be aborted if this keeps up)

Great Ideas?
I'm glad you asked!
Where do we get off borrowing to avoid the earned pain from years of greed?
A wave of foreclosures and job loss may be just what the doctor ordered.

What we are doing is immoral.
Will you have any grandkids to pay off Obama's debt?
Borrowing (aka 'Robbing') from future generations goes down a lot easier if you don't feel any responsibility to those future generations.

Families.
Kids (the kind husbands and wives make)
Grandkids.
Planning for the future.
Saving and Sacrificing so your kids have it better than you.
Not stealing them blind.
Family Values.

@16: just because it's not permanent doesn't mean it's not real. Ever been kicked in the shins? Ever twisted your ankle?

What's wrong with yesterday's game doesn't have anything to do with diving. It has a lot to do with terrible officiating, stupid-ass Sounders who can't control their tempers (Riley's red card was richly deserved even though he was in the right initially), and LA's mind-numbing, hateful style of football, and our cluelessness in the face of it.

@23: Wow, you are seriously clueless on so many, many levels. Where to start?

"A wave of foreclosures and job loss may be just what the doctor ordered"

Ah, yes cause that worked fucking wonders after the 1929 crash. Yes, cause all those homeless helpless people are just gonna evaporate into thin air and not be a problem for the state?

"What we are doing is immoral."

So we have been immoral our whole time as a country, except for 1 month in the 1800's when we had no debt? Really?

"Kids (the kind husbands and wives make)"

Cause we can totally stop kids from being born out of wedlock? And only kids from that union add value to society?

"Saving and Sacrificing so your kids have it better than you."

Economies that have a high savings rate don't always have a better economy (see Japan, entire 1990s decade), also that doesn't have anything to do with running a functioning country or economy.

"Family Values"

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA *WIPES TEARS* That is best comment ever. Cause that does so much! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

@24 - Yes and yes. And, yes it hurts. But, you see lots of players rolling around on the ground when neither of those things have happened. Getting tackled does not hurt every time it happens. Is it really necessary to fly as if you were fired out of a cannon just because of some incidental upper-body contact? I've seen people actually break bones and tear ligaments with less theatrics.

I agree that the officiating sucked and the Galaxy are an insufferable team. And, I think the combination of numerous yellow cards and missed calls fed the players' urge to over-dramatize.

Sigi Schmid even weighed in on the subject in an article from last week
