Still Full of Shit

Posted by Dominic Holden on Thu, May 7, 2009 at 4:49 PM

John Walters, Bush's former drug czar, argues marijuana use increases violence. Seriously. Here's Walters and a senior Harvard lecturer last night debating whether taxing legal pot would help the economy:

Paul Armentano crushes the bullshit arguments over at Huffington Post.

John Walters should jump with a parachute into the fires at Santa Barbara.

maybe the hot air and lies he's spewing will kill the fires.

Or, bonus, maybe he'll just fry instead.

HuffPo would be a lot more credible generally if they didn't promote pseudoscience with respect to homeopathy and vaccine safety.

John Walters is still a douche, regardless.

@2 agree completly.

But yeah keeping drugs illegal leads to violence. Drug gangs are not exactly friendly types, but if legalized they would be irrelevent as regular old buisness people would take over.

John Walters clearly does not know, or has not spent time around, those who use marijuana. Sure, there is violence on the business end, but once that weed is safe in the hands of a stoner, violence becomes a nonissue.

Reality Check 5
I watched AC360 live last night, and the one question they never posed directly to Walters was the fact that if MJ causes so much violence amongst users, and San Francisco now has more dispensaries than Starbucks (his words), then you would think that San Fran would be exploding in violence 4 fold higher. He never had to answer for how that discrepancy is possible on camera.

I'd love to hear how he could explain that away...

Ohh and the other thing I wished that the Harvard economist would have pointed out the fallacy in the argument Walters made about the 4 oz glass of beer vs the 8 oz glass of Jack Daniels analogy. The difference Walters you fucking moron, is that both those are legal, and we still have laws that legislate over intoxification or DUIs, yet BOTH alcohols are still legal! We just hold people responsible for proper consumption. And as was pointed out in the debate, even though both are readily available, you still find most people imbibing in 4 oz beers instead of the stronger alcohol if they are regular users.

I wish they would have had a full half hour to debate. Walters never did address that glaring double standard, and he never responded to the lack of logic in several of his points.

Don't forget. There are many in government who's livelihood depends on the idiot policies in this "drug war".
