Sims to Resign Tomorrow

Posted by on Wed, May 6, 2009 at 7:30 PM

According to a source, King County Executive Ron Sims has been confirmed as deputy secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development and will resign tomorrow. Next up: the process for picking a replacement between four candidates: Sims chief of staff Kurt Triplett, former county council members Steve Hammond and Louise Miller, and former Seattle mayor Charles Royer.

This is another opportunity for Dan Savage to announce his candidacy and get into the spotlight. Don't miss it, Dan!]

@1 Dan's running for mayor, not county exec.

But the Stranger needs to tell us who to vote for or we won't know what to do! Ahhh!!

For the last f#@#%^@ time, people - it's AMONG four candidates, not BETWEEN four candidates. You can't be between more than two things. (Your lesson on who vs. whom usage to follow in a later post.)

The Democrats hold a majority on the King County Council, thus the choice is between the Democratic candidates to fill in for Sims, Triplett and Royer. Bet on Triplett since Royer is a Seattle city guy and has little connection to county government, certainly not compared to Triplett. (No, the stripping of partisan labels from the voting ballot has no bearing on partisanship here.)

@4 Plus Triplett is the de facto County Executive once Ron turns in his resignation. It doesn't make sense to have three transitions (Sims to Triplett to interim County Exec to newly elected County Exec).

Any but Hammond would be good.

Hallelujah! There is a God! Don't ever come back Ron -- do not think you can go into exile and come back and run for governor or Senator. We want you gone forever.................that means never.

@ 4:
I wouldn't exactly say that the Democrats have a majority on the King County Council. There are three bonafide Democrats with Constantine, Gossett and Phillips. However, Patterson and Ferguson are known to piss on progressive values and vote with Republicans. That is the problem with non-partisan offices--you don't know what people stand for and it reduces accountability.
