The Bowl

Posted by on Tue, May 5, 2009 at 9:30 AM

A few moments ago, swift up that pole and into the bowl went one determined squirrel...
cd65/1241541051--4.jpg In its mouth, dead grass and bits of tissue paper. Would this litter become a bed or a couch? It's moving into a new house. The critter seems happy with its find above Sixth and Main, the very center of Nihonmachi.

In this post Charles notices that there are these things called squirrels in the world and that these animals make nests. Will tomorrow bring an epic tale of a pigeon and its quest for some spilled french fries. Only time will tell!

Hey, the squirrel has the right idea; who doesn't like a nice bowl full of grass?

@1 at least he didn't say this: "This is the moment wheere the line between animal and human is no longer real but becomes imaginary in our universal consciousness. The squirrel is using tools and creating an abode. No longer can human forms imagine this is what makes them distinct from the animals. And the act of appropriating the bowl indicates a consciousness of theft, a revolutionary protest against the ravages of global capitalism that brought people from afar to build their bowl-motifed small business in a faraway land. At the same time the bowl represents a vessel, a yearning for the female and in this, too the border between animal and human is erased in universal thought-being, because let me make this startling revelation -- critters like women too."

"Is this creature seeking to worship a mother earth goddess by nesting in a receptive form that bespeaks the Jungian-Marxist archetype of the maternal, as superstructure determined by the material patriarchal existence thoughout centures of capital dominance? Is the squirrel attempting to create 'capital' by 'saving' his nest chips and formulating a home? Is he in fact reading Marx and Engels? The end of our human dominance is nigh." Etc.

By now we can all just fill in the mad libs.

Dude, there hasn't been a proper Nihonmachi in Seattle since 1941. Look it up.
