If You See Only One Legendarily Awful X-Rated Musical from 1969 This Week......

Posted by on Mon, May 4, 2009 at 8:59 AM

...why not make It Can Heironymous Merkin Ever Forget Mercy Humppe and Find True Happiness?, written and directed by and starring Anthony Newley, and screening through Thursday at Northwest Film Forum.

If this (lightly NSFW) teaser clip doesn't inspire you to go....

....perhaps this sentence will:

Joan Collins (Newley’s wife at the time) co-stars as the temptress "Polyester Poontang" and Milton Berle plays the devilish “Goodtime Eddie Filth."

Full screening info here.

Cracker Jack 2
One of the most wonderfully bad movies ever. Tried to watch it a couple times on TCM or somesuch cable channel and couldn't make it all the way through. SO bad.

Anthony Newley completely fascinates me. I want to read a lavishly illustrated biography, or a comic, better still. Plus Milton Berle had some sort of enormity of the penis I hear, which is odd also.

I must go to this movie I guess. Thank you.

Huh. I had no idea that such thing as an X-rated musical even existed. Looks hilarious. I may have to go.

I'd read that biography, too, Gus. Have you seen the clip of him and Sammy Davis, Jr.? Or taking Lucille Ball (!) on a tour of Swinging London?

My favorite clip from this movie is the dramatic mountaintop talk with God.

This makes me want to watch the musical version of Reefer Madness again.

If it wasn't for Musical from 1969, I'd have guessed you were talking about Hard Candy, which is ultimately kind of boring. But boring in 3D with a great money shot.
