Seattle Erotic Art Fest, in Photos

Posted by Kelly O on Fri, May 1, 2009 at 4:17 PM

I didn't notice any proportions and/or disproportion in the imagery, specifically in images of women being dominated (and/or humiliated), last night. I get too geeked on live performance and was busy taking pictures of hotties Fucshia Foxx and Waxie Moon... was too busy laughing with Allen Stein about that time I got on the thrillhammer, fully clothed (and after way too many vodka-pops), in Portland. There's a ton to do and see there. Hot, or not? Go see for yourself. The festival runs tonight through Sunday...

it's like fucking Idiocracy the movie come to life:

"do you like sex?"

Bad "art," if it can even be stretched to that definition.

Keep it at home, behind closed doors, and just talk about it on line if you feel you must. I'm gay and I'm no prude, but this is beyond "artistic."

Wow, I'm surprised at how prudish Jen Graves and the commenters are. Thanks for posting something neutralish to positive Kelly!

@ 4 - Yeah, really. It's so "shocking" that it goes all the around again back to "vanilla".

tired, overdone, cliche... "wow! Let's make phalic things out of everyday objects or materials!" O'Keefe had it right...

Frozen dildoes aren't art, no matter how you, excuse the words, "place them." Anybody can do that.

Make something new and daring. I've seen rows of dicks before ;-)

Aw, where's y'all's sense of fun? How is a huge display of glowing blue dicks not fairly awesome?
Posted by Mudpuppy on May 1, 2009 at 5:31 PM

@8 It might be awesome, but I wouldn't call it "erotic"

I knew it! Slog is populated by a screechy bunch of teenage girl sounding male feminist ("touchy feely") commenters. They love the splattered spam, but give them a hard beautiful man's organ in art and they succumb to scratching on a chalkboard. Boo hoo, you slit lovers.

Though nothing in the photo set makes the event seem like something that could interest me, I must tip my hat to anybody whose politico-sexual self-regard can thrive beneath a grid of fluorescent panels in a drop ceiling.

What if all those dicks came at the same time? It would look like the fountain display at the Bellagio in Vegas. Or they could be choreographed to go off in rapid succession, like an early 1930's Busby Berkeley musical number...

15/16, you are not even near worthy of a contemptuous reply, so I won't bother. I've got more exciting things to do, like watch paint dry.

@18- Way to prove how exciting you are! Hurry along and go watch your paint, wouldn't want to miss it!

I went last night and wow! I had a blast! I plan on going again tonight! Most of the art was great, certainly better than the previous slog entry and discussion made it sound. Incredible performances, entertaining people watching, enthusiastic volunteers. I really liked the food decoration demos, Suspended Animation (rope bondage suspension), and the live musical performance from The Wet Spots (unfortunately they had to deal with crappy sound).

Thank you to the Foundation for Sex Positive Culture for bringing sexuality out from behind closed doors where it sits for most people like a shameful, dirty secret. Last night was a wonderful celebration of sexuality in all its diversity.

*Yawn*

From the reviews and the few photos I've read, SEAF appears to have been yet another huddle for the fetish community to flex and pose and attempt to climb over themselves to be cock (or clit) of the walk. I'd venture to say the entire Pacific Northwest "Twitter community" is now abuzz with back-slapping comments instead of hourly, inane, updates on everyone's daily activities.

Whoever said "If you don't like it don't go" was right. It's not that I don't like good erotic art or even my own lovely fetishes. I just don't like the narcissistic peacock feather spreading that inevitably goes with the public scene wherever one goes. As far as good erotic art? I agree with the questionable nature of a bunch of frozen dicks. Or was that the middle school division entry?

Well, you know we "cocks or clits of the walk" (as you so generously label 2000+ people at a stroke) were quite content to enjoy some interesting, creative and even disturbing art ( such as the soft-form "calm shell" made of bra cups, nylon stuffed with wool, and a bit of feathery fluff ) and wonderful performances without the rest of you who are so vocally not interested in either erotic art, performance, or enjoying some seriously amazing eye candy. To each their own! Happy to not have to deal with you or try to change your mind. Thanks!
Personally, I thought SEAF was a fucking well-done production that raised money for an good organization with solid, sexy, progressive goals. SEAF is unique in the country, and a pioneer event. Oh, and people were HOT! so fun!
@25: heh!
Mad props to the flash mob make-out kids on Saturday night! Way to make security freak out and try to tell you that you were "too hot" ... ha ha! "too hot..." Oh, sorry!! Ha!

@treacle: Thanks! I had a great time putting Passionfruit together (the flash mob make-out). The (un)dress rehearsals in my living room were a blast - lots of laughter, sexiness, light-heartedness, whimsy. We were delighted to bring this surprise to the Festival attendees - and it was indeed a fun surprise for us to see how the crowd (and security) responded. Here's a fun story I heard from one of our troupe: As they began disrobing each other, a woman nearby picked up a belt off the floor, tapped one performer and said "excuse me, you dropped your belt..." ... "hellooo - you dropped your belt!" ... "EXCUSE ME! YOU NAUGHTY COUPLE! YOU DROPPED YOUR BELT!"

Anyone who feels they can "judge" or "review" the quality or worthiness of an event THAT THEY HAVEN'T ACTUALLY BEEN TO should just plain shut up. If you HAVE been to the event, and want to make some comments, negative ones even, please do! The whole POINT of art is to inspire discussion, and judging by the number of posts about the "frozen dildos" (they weren't frozen: just lit in blue light), I'd say that that piece succeeded FANTASTICALLY! Lol! But sitting safely on the sidelines and tearing down something that you haven't seen personally is just lame, and fear based, and one of the few traits I really find disappointing about Seattle. I find that trait more prevalent here than any other city I have lived in, and it's a shame. I'm not sure where it comes from.

I went to SEAF friday, and in some regards I honestly think it is TOO sanitized, TOO censored for my tastes, but that is due to the prudish laws we live under (It is at Seattle Center, after all!), and not the fault of the SEAF production team in any way. And as a result, the event is a huge reminder to me of just how cloistered and prudish a society we still live in... and so, as a result, even though the actual event of SEAF is frustrating, it inspires me to work harder to change my world and open minds in my daily life. So I keep going each year, to be disappointed and inspired for that very purpose.

As the artistic director of the Festival, I'd like to thank everyone who attended. We're pretty happy with how things went, and pleased that so many people came down and enjoyed themselves.

We know we can't please everyone, but we're not trying to. We hope to broaden acceptance of erotic forms of expression, and celebrate the work of artists exploring that field. We also enjoy throwing a great big party. Hats off to everyone who participated in any way. We had a great crew.

Special thank you to those who weren't quite sure what to expect, but decided to attend anyway. I hope we made it worth your time & money.

This show was AMAZING!

It's for those who are non judgmental and appreciate knowing that they are not alone in having some fetishes they may have been lead to believe were not "appropriate".

It's about being comfortable in yourself and enjoying beautiful pieces of art created by talented artists who find eroticism in much more than just conventional aspects of sexuality.

It's enjoying and encouraging a sex positive community to thrive for those interested in expressing that part of their personality. I'm grateful to be able to experiance having a safe encouraging place to do that.

It was a incredable event, amazing people with fantastic talents who put this labor of love and passion on as a huge gift to the community at large to appreciate. The fee is nominal for the hours of enjoyment that is abound. Most people will never know what kind of dedication it takes to put the Seattle Erotic Art Festival on and that is okay but don't tear down what you are not willing to attend and experience for yourself.
