Perez Was Right

Posted by Dan Savage on Fri, May 1, 2009 at 2:37 PM

Dumb bitch.

PREJEAN: My thought on civil unions? You know what, Greta? I don't have the answers to everything. I'm not running for political office. I don't have the answers to everything, you know, in the world out there. But I think that there should be rights for people, you know, especially in California. I think that people that are homosexual should have some rights, you know, hospital rights, and things like that. But I would like to be more educated on that, so when I do have a better answer for you, I will get back to you on that one. But so far I just support traditional marriage, and that's my main focus.

But so far I just support traditional marriage, and that's my main focus.

VAN SUSTEREN: What about adoption?

PREJEAN: Greta, I am focusing on marriage right now, not adoption, not civil unions, just traditional marriage, and I'm going to do whatever it takes to promote that.

VAN SUSTEREN: I understand, and I understand your position on traditional marriage. I'm just sort of trying to figure out where you draw the line in terms of what kind of rights that you think that a man and woman should have that maybe two men, two women, shouldn't have.

And that's why I was asking the question on civil unions and adoptions. I was just trying to sort it out for myself what you think.

PREJEAN: Well, I'm not a politician, so I can't give you an answer to that.

The right to be at your partner's side during a medical emergency and to make medical decisions for your partner if he is incapacitated is a marital right, a right that spouses, as next of kin, "enjoy." And Miss CA supports that right and, you know, some other rights to be named later—at least for same-sex couples in California—but she can't really go into specifics about the other rights gays and lesbians should enjoy—can I dispose of my partner's remains, Miss CA?—because, you know, she doesn't have all the answers to, you know, everything in the world out there, and seeing as she's not a politician Miss CA can't be expected to know what she herself thinks about adoptions and civil unions.

I'm glad Miss CA thought so deeply about this issue before deciding to campaign so aggressively against the rights of same-sex couples.

I like Stupid Bitch better...even the American Talibanists aren't going to want her if she can't sound more intelligent, or even speak coherently.

It's pretty obvious that she's just riding the Fame Train and hoping she can either spin her current 15 minutes into a career as a Talibani spokesmodel, or get a job doing infomercials...

Do we really need more point-by-point refutation to realize that this blond, fake-boobied beauty-contest winner is an idiot?

I and the rest of the world would have dismissed her as irrelevant days ago if not for this additional coverage.

Will you be debating a pit-bull next? I look forward to THAT itemized logical dissection.

This brings a whole new breed of marriage segregationist thought to the fore. Namely, people who see no problem codifying gay relationships, but get squirmy over the semantics; and their close relatives, people who are okay with gay relationships including all 'opposite' marriage rights except the children bit.

The funny thing is, I thinks it's a lot harder to be self-consistent when you're arguing something dumb like 'you can adopt, and visit each other in the hospital, and file taxes together, but dear lord don't call it marriage!' than saying outright 'gays shouldn't marry.'

Quit your vitriol against this woman Dan, no matter how much you like to paint her as some homophobe monster she's clearly shown she is not with this answer, she's not against gay identified couples being granted basic rights in accordance to their reality. You and your fellow extremist are on the other hand being exposed by the venom you spew against this woman. Or could all this just be reduced to some form of envy on your part? She's young, attractive and a female. Everything you're not no matter how hard you try.

she's like sarah palin and anita bryant wrapped up in one ignorant, inarticulate, silicone-stuffed package. she's the new gift that keeps on giving. i still [heart] sarah p, but this broad is totally rocking my world right now. thank you, NOM!

Jesus, who cares what she thinks? Besides, breast implants are unnatural too. You don't see her complaining about those, though.

Hey, wasn't there some beauty queen in the 70's who raised a stink with this same issue? (Gay rights, not breast implants.)

Wow. I bet NOM is really thrilled they hitched their wagon to her star. For reals.

It's going to be so difficult to decide between Miss Prejean and Michelle Bachmann when choosing a Republican candidate in '12.

Really, I am sooo glad this woman is getting this much attention. You know nothing screams qualified opinion like a fucking model who was called a stupid bitch.

I thought I'd seen the depths of her ignorance, but... Loveschild thinks that Dan wants to be a young, attractive female? It boggles the mind.

This brave Christian Patriot is being slimed just as Sarah Palin was. If she were a liberal, she'd get a pass and you know it.

@2: Considering the Prop 8 decision and the current state of gay rights in California, I think it's important to scrutinize the latest poster child for marriage inequality. Prop 8 had real consequences because of idiots like this. Plus, you could say the same thing about Sarah Palin -- that she's too stupid to be relevant -- but look how close to the seat of power she got.

@19: A liberal getting a pass for being a dimwit and saying "gays shouldn't be married because that's totally not how we did it in the 1600s"? Right.

Please, find yourself a hole, pad it with Mr. Poe and bury yourself under whatever mud you claw out of Loveschild's head.

@14,

No, it won't. She's not remotely old enough. I will laugh if Republicans float the idea of changing the Constitution just for her, as they suggested to let Schwarzenegger run for president.

Wow.

You know, at first I was pissed, and wished she'd just shut the fuck up.

But now, the more she talks, the more obvious it becomes that she doesn't have more than 3 brain cells bouncing around in her skull. I'm beginning to think that her vacuous vitriol is doing more to help gay rights than hurt.

So keep on talking Prejean!!

One would hope Lord Basil that if she were a liberal, she wouldn't be such a ignorant bigot. I know the two aren't mutually exclusive but it is something to consider.

And if she was a liberal and said the same thing, she would probably be even more "viciously attacked."

What I find interesting is that she may represent a large portion of americans who vote for something because they heard some soundbite like "protect traditional marriage" and don't really stop to think about what it means and don't think they should have to.

I like her answer. And I don't want to tar and feather her for not agreeing with me because she's actually saying that she doesn't have all the answers and isn't here to argue every nit-picky detail.

As a liberal, I'm pretty open minded to alternate view points from my own and still think she should be granted a forum especially because she's not spewing hate or vitriol.

I just want to go on the record saying that no, I would not fuck her. Ribs showing, fake boobs, bleached out hair, vacant eyes - all emblematic of southern California's wasteland of fakeness and blandness. She is Stupid White Man's plastic Stepford wife.

@10, You say such nice things, Mirrorman.

@19, If she were a liberal, she'd be advocating more equal human rights, not less. I'll concede that if she were a gun-control nut she'd not get anywhere near the attention she's getting now, but that's because the anti-gun lobby has some legitimate gripes (with which I happen to disagree, but still). I've yet to hear a legitimate gripe in opposition to gays getting marital rights.

Not one, and I've searched.

Keep up the coverage. The more exposure/attention this woman gets, the more the message comes across that opponents of gay marriage are uninformed, sheep-like wastes of skin.

it's funny that she doesn't have the answers to the "political" questions. NOM must be getting a little nervous about her about now.

but it does show who's winning. in the past "civil unions" weren't on the table either... at this point the arguments against same-sex marriage are starting to slip away. even miss cali is only objecting to the word itself now.
