DADT: Promise Remade

Posted by on Fri, May 1, 2009 at 3:42 PM

Americablog:

It's been a disturbing 24 hours. But the White House has just updated its Web site to indicate that it continues to support the repeal of the Don't Ask Don't Tell policy.... The White House Web site has now been updated, again, and the "repeal" language is back. And while it's couched in the same terms about being done in a "sensible way," I would assume that all administration policy is implemented in a "sensible way," so this should have no bearing on whether President Obama will keep his promise to fully repeal the ban.

It's nice to have Obama's DADT campaign promise back. Now let's have the campaign promise fulfilled.

So my first prediction that they would use this more for in-progress and active initiatives was right. And my second guess that the language was a work in progress was, too.

My third guess is that it was a kid writing and posting copy that wasn't sure of how to phrase the intent so he put it in more ambiguous terms until corrected.

My fourth guess is that this is going to be seen as a "victory" when it's really just a victory over proofreading errors and patience.

Those who want to drive through this issue are seeking to hurt our President because they damn well know how DADT ended up hurting Clinton when he ignorantly made the mistake of bringing it up.

How on Earth did you find Slog, Loveschild?

@2: Did he have a majority of military families supporting overturning it like Obama does?

You really are a lying, deceitful and hateful person.

All you need is an executive order.

That and him ordering the chiefs to implement the policy and asking how they're going to do so.

Not asking.

Telling them.

5 Sure and then risking being elected for a second term or loosing political capital to address and implement more urgent policies. Because you know the neocons are just waiting for something like that to happen to ambush him and go for the feast like the scavengers they are. Think.

silly person. you obviously have no idea how the military works. neocons are in your imagination.

@6 he isn't going to lose any political capital by repelling DADT. Too many people in this country are ready for gays to able to serve openly. In case you haven't been paying attention lately, you're loosing.

@2, this is not 1993. 80% of Americans are in favor of repeal of DADT.

I don't understand why anyone would want to join the military this day and age. Can't we just do it with machines anyway, there's no real need for human interaction anymore.

@5 It was passed by Congress as a law and therefore Congress needs to overturn it and give it to him to sign.

You know... I'm sure it wasn't in response to my sending that email to the white house earlier today... but it does feel kind of nice anyways. =)

When I was in Vietnam, the queer corps used to stand in groups outside the showers cruising everyone as they went in or left.

Needless to say, this was demoralizing.

Allowing gays in the military would only damage morale, which is the ultimate goal of the Marxist homosexual in the White House. If there is any doubt that Barack Hussein Obama is a treasonous traitor who is trying to undermine this country, this should end it.

@14,

By demoralizing I assume you mean nobody gave you the time of day. Let it go.

Is he repealing a ban on the language of not telling?

Or is he banning the repeal of the ban of telling; sensibly?

I'm confused?

But using your question I will answer you this way, I'm just glad HE found me and I want HE to find all of you (Mr Savage, and the troll with a thousand names at 16 that disrespected you) here also.

I mean it with sincerity even though I only know some of you from your postings here. Have a good one. In God's love.

The UK military has had openly gay soldiers serving for several years now with no loss of moral or operational effectiveness. Are Lord Basil and those who share his views suggesting the US military is less capable than ours? Not very patriotic of you, guys...
