For many years, every time I go to Tokyo those masks seem to be so popular within their crowded culture.
Going to a theme park in Tokyo I noticed that when they took pictures of each other they still did not take off their masks. They would pose for the shot, they weren't just acting goofy, and you could not even recognize who they are. Those must be some pretty sentimental pictures decades later. "That's me as a teenager in the surgical mask on the left."
