A Bus Tale

Posted by on Thu, Apr 30, 2009 at 9:54 AM

Joe Biden is telling commuters to stay off the subways.

Jonathan is suggesting, reasonably enough, to sit at least three feet away from anyone else on the bus, or every other seat.

Meanwhile, my bus this morning was at at least 200 percent capacity, with people standing two abreast in the aisle—including a troupe of preschoolers, several people with obvious coughs, and a woman who kept blowing her nose into a tissue, which she then used to hold onto the railing.

The bottom line is: Wash, prepare, Purell. But staying away from people can be harder than it sounds.

"But staying away from people can be harder than it sounds."

Especially when your professed lifestyle is one of dense urban living.

Good luck with that, Erica.

It's sunny out - why didn't you walk, bike, or skateboard?

And that's why I walked to work this morning, and why I'll be walking back home.

Not only did I walk to work this morning, I also insisted that my roommate take my car rather than the bus. A little paranoia never hurt anybody.

@7 - Ha! But, what if you have an itch on your nose? I like this one better.

@8: Yes, that's exactly what Joe said. But it doesn't fit with Erica's premise, so she misrepresented it. That's her style.

Ride your bike to work. The weather is improving. You keep those pestilence ridden people at a distance. And you breathe deeply, clearly out your lungs and making them healthy.
