I own a zune and I really like it. The all-you-can-download service is amazing. I list to more music now than I ever have in my entire life. I can even download songs from the device on the bus.
If that makes me "not cool", I don't give a shit. I'd rather enjoy my life and listen to great music than have some shitty ipod (iTunes is terrible) and be just like everyone else.
I don't know what you're work setup is like Will (I say that because you have to be an admin on your machine to install it), but there's and Office plugin to solve that issue on the MS site.
Also, like others said: Hulu, and you'll need to do this soon, as "Jackie Jormp-jomp" is probably the funniest thing anyone's said in April.
I had the pleasure of celebrating the new year with two Zune owners, both of whom were mightily impressed that their devices had been converted into small, useless bricks by that leap-year bug or whatever the hell it eventually turned out to be. they came back to life later, which kind of spoils my fun, but it was hilarious while it lasted: "So, let me get this straight -- every single one of these anywhere in the world all stopped working at once?" "Yes, that appears to be the case". "Ah, hah, hah, hah, hah!"
I have to say Microsoft makes a damn fine mouse, though.
Mine does that every year, now on it's third incarnation. Even under warranty, it's a PITA to deal with and reactivating the purchased content is a fucking nightmare.
I won't likely bother to go through the process the third time.
I believe the latest openoffice can also deal with docx. I used openoffice (or was it abiword) to restore a docx the latest ms office mangled and could no longer read.

that sucks, i was worried mine was going to for awhile. Hopefully its a quick turn around from the repair center.
Have you tried installing your discs to the hard drive before you play them? it helps the system run a bit cooler.
I heard that the major issue is that systems slowly heat more and more and some pins holding the disc tray in are expanding or something eventually making it so it can't play and the red ring shows up. But could be another issue.
1) you can import docx files - upgrade your pirated and tired version of office 2003 to 2007. It is year 2009 just in case you forgot, and while XP is still the bestest thing to have, the office shit actually works.
2) iphone + pandora app + npr radio app = win over the microsoft shitbox.

Any, any mp3 player that just behaves like a disk and has no DRM on it is going to have the superior software interface. So Apple and Microsoft lose handily in that respect. Yes iTunes does suck if you're on a PC. It's fine if you're on a Mac.
There are many of us out there with iPods who aren't happy with the software, etc, but we still use them because we got them for christmas, and a free iPod is the best mp3 player there is... Even if you have to install bloatware just to get it to work.
If the DRM free mp3 players out there had 1/2 the sound quality or output power of an iPod, I might have gotten one of those.

I love how all the hipsters on this site bitch incessantly about Microsoft. I guess it's considered the cool thing to do. But god forbod MSFT went under. All you hipster critics would be feeling pain bigtime, as MSFT is the life-blood of the Seattle economy
You you you you: use RockBox (http://www.rockbox.org), the open source alternative firmware for ipods and the like. It turns your ipod into something that behaves like a disk and has no DRM. Then you can kiss bloatware like iTunes goodbye.

I hope that NEVER happens to my husbands xbox...Then i'd be forced to interact with him so much more...and there is only so much I can take. The Xbox keeps me sane.

I love my Zune too! It's funny to hear so many people say, "I will never own a Zune." When they have never taken a good look at one. The subscription service beats the pants off of buying or (gasp) stealing music.
