The Craiglist Killer: A Traditionalist

Posted by on Tue, Apr 28, 2009 at 8:54 AM

NYT:

Later, at the University at Albany, Mr. Markoff was a member of the College Republicans, and traveled to Washington in 2004 to hear speeches by Ann Coulter and Karl Rove.

“We were surrounded by such a left-wing student body, and he was more like me: he didn’t really share those sentiments,” said one classmate, Jonathan Zierler, who said he had accompanied Mr. Markoff on the trip. “He was a traditionalist as far as things like men and women’s roles in society. He was a throwback from a more conservative era.”

So he won't be getting gay married in prison or anything.

No, but I will buy him for two packs of Luckys and make him hold my pocket.

"Mr. Markoff was a member of the College Republicans, and traveled to Washington in 2004 to hear speeches by Ann Coulter and Karl Rove. "

That one statement say soooo much.

Actually, it isn't surprising and plays into his anti-woman, anti-gay, and anti-trans feelings - if his potential victim trawling patterns are used as an indication.

Not really a comment on the post, but this guy has absolutely NO chance of getting an unbiased trial.

Another American Psycho type comes out of the woodwork. Must be something about how the modern conservative movement, exemplified by Rove and Coulter, claims sociopathy as a virtue.

Simply proving once again, that being a conservative / republican is truly a mental disorder. I mean, how can anyone enjoy this life, when so much mental conflict abounds in their heads. Hopefully science will one day be able to cure this scourge of society. One can only hope.

I don't know, Urgutha. A lot of people don't pay as much attention to the internet as ourselves.

@2 I don't doubt he's a misogynist and homophobe, but I find it hard to imagine him victimizing straight men on craigslist as a man himself.

Yeah, but it's also all over the tee-vee news too.

Robbery and murder ARE pretty traditional, when you think about it.

@8,

You're so uncreative. He could've robbed men who put stuff up for sale. Or offered free blowjobs to straight guys.

I do so hope he is horribly sexually victimized in prison.

Who was his idiot fiance? Someone should do an expose on "throw-backs" like her. The world needs to do away with anti-women women.

@3 - I wouldn't worry about him, a good lawyer will prove beyond a reasonable doubt that gay marriage made him do it.

@14: I don't see any indication that his fiancee was an anti-woman woman. Naive probably, but there are almost always some people who say, "No, I know this person. He or she could never have done something like that." True sociopaths are usually pretty good at things like manipulation and can often seem extremely kind, caring, etc. to those they wish to show that face to. I'm not saying that I think anti-women women are a good thing, but I was always under the impression that a major part of feminism was having compassion and understanding for others and allowing them to make decisions for themselves (even if we don't particularly like that they are choosing to fall into more "traditional" roles.)

@ 14,

I have a feeling their relationship is more like that of Mark Goudeau and Wendy Carr. De Nile ain't just a river in Egypt.

Most conservatives are not killers.

However, I do think that some killers put on conservative fronts to hide their perversity in the same way that some closeted queers put on conservative fronts to hide their faggotry.

I don't think there's ever been a lefty serial killer because the left doesn't exist to hold up status quo ideas that are safe to hold up.

The left's agenda is one of progressive change, and progressive ideas will only open one up to more criticism and scrutiny than simply believing what is safe.

And, the last thing a serial killer, a closeted queer or anyone else trying to keep a secret needs is scrutiny.

Ted Bundy was a conservative Republican also.
