Does Anyone Know if Miss New Hampshire Supports Same-Sex Marriage?

Posted by on Tue, Apr 28, 2009 at 2:37 PM

What about Miss Vermont? Or Miss New Jersey? Or Miss New York? Because Miss California has been running around arguing that, as a duly-swimsuited representative of the state of California, she pretty much has an obligation to support a ban on same-sex marriage.

Prejean, a student at San Diego Christian College, was back home for the first time Sunday since last week's contest, where she was named first runner-up to Miss North Carolina. She has since become a celebrity far beyond her second-place finish. She maintained her answer was based on her spiritual beliefs and personal convictions, and represents a majority opinion of people... in California.

Majorities in Vermont, New Hampshire, New Jersey, and New York support marriage equality—does anyone know if their respective Misses support marriage equality? Apparently they're obligated to.

Not only are they obligated to support it, they're obligated to get a gay marriage.

Just like Miss Washington is obligated to get married and reproduce, since that's the only thing marriage is good for, right?

Nothing like a dumb blonde to speak out about people's rights and her "religious convictions".
Screw you, missy!

Why are you still posting about this vacuous contestant (and contest) as if it matters at all what anyone involved thinks?

If us "Gay" Americans weren't so arrogant and would just leave the word marriage to those religious types and accept civil unions this discussion would be long over. Take a hint from England they have been at it a lot longer than the spoiled brat America!!!

Civil unions are on the table because we've been pressing for marriage rights, 4. If we hadn't pressed for marriage, civil unions wouldn't be up for discussion.

Perhaps Miss Mississippi is as mentally challenged.

Miss California is not obligated to uphold anything regarding marriage (assuming she is heterosexual). Heterosexuals are not obligated to live up to any moral authority. They are only obligated to ensure that same-sex couples aren't allowed to flout the traditions they do not uphold.

Miss Savage is apparently not obligated to uphold boycotts that are established to express dismay against corporations that use their profits to push amendments to state constitutions that restrict the equal protections for same-sex couples as defined by the California Supreme Court.

Miss California thinks she upholds the will of the people. Miss Savage upholds the will of herself...and owes explanations and/or apologies to no one.

I still can't fathom why anyone cares about this. We have an institution that rewards participants for directing all of their human capital away from their brains and into their breasts, and then we are supposed to give a shit about what their now vacuous skull cavities manage to produce? The headline should simply read "Dumb person groomed to be dumb reaches dumb conclusion." Is that news?

I tried Googling different ways to find out how pageant contestants or judges, if any, feel about gay marriage. All I got was BS about Miss California and some Christian sites discussing it. I wonder how they feel about being miserable failures at learning about the New Testament? There's nothing in it that mentions homosexuals. Only the old testament(the one Jews are supposed to follow) has anything specific about it.

“Well I think its great that Americans are able to choose one or the other. We live in a land where you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite marriage. And you know what, in my country, in my family, I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offense to anybody out there, but that’s how I was raised and that’s how I think it should be between a man and a woman. Thank you very much.”

That's what she actually SAID. If you take it that she mis-spoke with "in my country" and immediately corrected it to "in my family," then what is objectionable here? She thinks it's great that gays can get married -- where they can -- but she and her family prefer, as she put it, "opposite marriage."

This is a tempest in a dollhouse teacup.

Why does anyone care what she, or any of them, think? For gods sake. They are BEAUTY PAGEANT CONTESTANTS.

If the superdelegates have to represent the will of the people, then there's no reason to even have superdelegates .....

I think Kym in Portland summed it up the best last week when she said that the reason this chick lost wasn't because of her position, but her delivery. That both sides are making more of it than that seems to show that they'd rather go all conspiracy theory than let it die an honorable death as a foot note on 'The Soup'.

Most of these are on record for gay marriage -- or at least more for gay amrriage than Miss California.

The winner -- Miss USA from South Carolina -- thinks you should have civil unions and be satisfied with it.

10:
Her statements were ambiguous enough that she could have meant only in her family (in which case, she's only bigoted towards any unfortunate gay family members) and not what the legal regime should be, but her later comments made clear that she supports state-sanctioned discrimination.
17: The winner was from NC.
