One More Gay Marriage Slog Post

Posted by on Mon, Apr 27, 2009 at 6:25 PM

Okay, it's basically an ad for Lambda Legal. But... man... it's moving.

When's the last time you made a donation to Lambda Legal? I'm making one right now.

NO!

One more for the night!

Perhaps a report on how gay marriage will spawn a new wave of horribly edited wedding videos, reminding us all of the horrible days when straight people discovered Super 8.

Yeah, good ad. And none of the homos were wearing bib overalls! They're just...homos! Like us!

Yes, definitely give to Lambda Legal. As I said in Questionland, they're the ones doing the "heavy lifting" in this fight. (Dan, I would hope you already know that.)

Lambda Legal has probably done a lot more to advance this cause and gay rights in general than HRC will ever do (not to take anything away from the HRC effort). Lambda quietly works out of the spotlight and takes on legal cases that either merit advocacy, or have the potential to win favorable rulings (like Iowa) that tear down the walls of intolerance and injustice.

Their main, if only, fundraiser in this area is the annual Garden Party in August. A number of locals are on the Board or Leadership Council of Lambda, including Rep. Jamie Pedersen who is Chairperson of the Leadership Council.

Check out their website for more information on the great work they're doing across the country. You can donate by clicking the link on their home page. http://www.lambdalegal.org/

As long as we're planning our giving, let's not forget to include a little bit for the ACLU...

Hopefully Dan gave a donation at least the size of his paycheck from last weeks This American Life event to make up for the money he helped Cinemark theaters earn that will be used by CEO to fight a repeal of Prop 8 in California.

It would have been somewhat worthwhile if Dan would have suggested to the audience that he attracted last week to watch him in Cinemark theaters to double the amount they paid to watch his selfish ass to help repeal 8...pity he didn't think of it.

Lord help us, being gay is no excuse for the obscene amount of posts Dan has made today around this topic. Of all days might I add. If ever a giant meteor heads for the Earth and all we've got is a few hours, minutes to live count on him blogging about some gay fundraiser happening somewhere.

He has Zero notion of priorities, I tremble to imagine what his house looks like. Merciful God in the heavens.

@8 - just remember that it's highly likely the ACLU will be helping Republicans avoid jail during their war crimes trials.

Not that they shouldn't do that, they're the ACLU, but ...

@10: One does wonder why he is so obsessed with letting people who love each other build a life and make each other happy. There are so many other more important things in life--like housework.

#11. Can you explain your post? I know that the ACLU helps everyone--even the scum of the Earth--who is fighting for First Amendment rights (like the Klan, etc.).

But I don't understand why you think they'd help the Bush Adm. avoid jail time. Hell, the ACLU has been their loudest critics.

The ACLU doesn't have a history helping war criminals, does it?

@10 --- Figures you'd be there counting someone else's posts and telling us all what a waste they are-- oblivious to the fact that you have the time and energy to do what you don't want others to do.

Since it's all that important to you, go start your own blog with no gayness to it, please. Don't let the door hit ya on the way out.....

@10, give it a rest and Lord help you! You complain about the number of Dan's posts. You post more here in one day than the entire paid staff of Slog! Quit wasting time and get out there and start practicing all of this love that you profess to have. Go help some child that was abused by str8 parents or priest. You always like those posts. Go do something positive and leave us the fuck alone!!

"America tortures people"

Wow. How Dan loves to extrapolate, from the CIA to the whole nation.

Hateschild is witnessing for her ersatz lord. deep down she knows nobody faces anything at all after we die so she tries to make it hell for people she does not like.

The ACLU has been the leader in the lawsuits that have resulted in us seeing the memos that have spawned the wave of torture discussion last week. Obama didn't hand them over willingly, he only did so due to ACLU lawsuit pressure.
If we do have prosecutions and if govt. violates rights of Bush or Cheney in some way (illegal search of new Bush home, or trying them with a jury of 12 ardent moslems all with relatives killed during our invasion of Iraq, say, or perhaps during their 50 year long jail sentences if they are denied access to the prison library on the grounds they are GOP, for example), then the ACLU very well and properly may defend them.

but Will -- cart; horse; okay?

@18, rather like extrapolating from the hand to the whole body or from the hired assassin to the aggrieved wife.

Won't it be nice when all this is behind us and our families can live in peace knowing we are just like everybody else in the eyes of the law.

For Vince, who, I would imagine, is too young to remeber this oldie:

"Maybe if we think and wish and hope and pray,
It might come true.
Maybe then, there wouldn't be a single thing we couldn't do.
And we could be married,
And then we'd be happy,
Wouldn't it be nice?"
