Remember, guys, the douchebag proportion of this here overly large state is only something like 6::4.
A firm 40% of us may say, "y'all" without irony but are in all other ways good normal sane Americans who affirm a woman's right to choose, a couple's right to marry, a teenager's right to know the best data we have about life and how it starts, and don't have our teabags in a wad over our tax burden (which we know is the lowest in the civilized world).
What's gonna become of us if this here Teabaggistan thang were to come to pass?

@3, we should grant amnesty for those poor "normal sane" people like @1 who would be trapped, and deserve to have a chance at a better life - outside of Texas.
(minor disclaimer: I was born in Texas but had the good grace to move before I was a year old - sadly most of my Texas relatives will not qualify for amnesty since they will be unable to pass the "You Must Not Be Bat-Shit Crazy" qualification).

@1 Re: defection: Under our statehood agreement with the US, we have the right to subdivide Good Ol' Tejas. So, we take Austin and Houston, where most of the education, liberals, and tasty industry are anyway, and make a nice little state with East Texas and the Hill Country. All the crazies from East Texas can move to West Texas, the liberals in Dallas (I think there are one or two) can replace them, and we'll have our own little happy state of Texas with all major Texian historical landmarks, the prettiest parts of the state, and the good music! Waco, El Paso, Lubbock, and everyone else can go off and form the Libertarian Republic of Jesusland. Ron Paul can be their leader! We can keep the Texas we like, and they can all go off and be the Texas they want to be. Everyone wins.

Other than the governor and the handful of right-wingers that Perry was speaking to, I haven't come across a single Texan that remotely thinks this is a good idea. Most of us think it will get Perry booted out of office. But what do I know, I live down on the Mexican border in the most staunchly Democrat part of the state.
