Some exciting readings tonight.
First, Patrick J. Fitzgerald reads up at Kane Hall. Fitzgerald, of course, pursued Scooter Libby and sent the son of a bitch to jail. (It's not his fault that Bush commuted Libby's sentence.) Tonight, Fitzgerald gives a lecture titled "Serving the Public: Ethics and Public Office."
There's a schmancy event at the Tom Douglas ballroom to celebrate Nina Planck's book Real Food for Mother and Baby. Ana Castillo reads from The Guardians, a novel about life in a border town, at the central Seattle Public Library. At Third Place Books, Julie Neras reads from Apprenticed to Hope, which is a collection of essays about hope.
Hugo House is hosting Cheap Wine & Poetry, which is a poetry reading and an extended happy hour in which wine is $1 a glass. Today, poets Christa Bell, Matt Gano, Peter Pereira and Judith Roche will read.
And at Elliott Bay Book Company, Geoff Dyer reads from his new, horribly titled novel Jeff in Venice, Death in Varanasi. Dyer wrote the great non-fiction books Yoga for People Who Can't Be Bothered to Do It, and most especially, Out of Sheer Rage, which is a book about not writing a book about D.H. Lawrence.
Here's my call: Go to the Fitzgerald, Dyer, or Cheap Wine and Poetry events and you won't be sorry.
The full readings calendar, including the next week or so, is here.
