Make Room for Fisto!

Posted by Paul Constant on Wed, Apr 22, 2009 at 2:44 PM

Topless Robot has a list of the 12 coolest He-Man action figures. Some winners include Stinkor (a muscular skunk who the toymakers covered with a nasty smell; apparently the action figure still stinks, twenty years later), Ram-Man, and Dragstor. I had a few of these figures. Man-E-Faces was my favorite.

But in the comments field, there's some grassroots support growing for Fisto, a character I had never heard of before. Here is what Wikipedia says about Fisto:

Fisto is a large and muscular warrior with reddish-brown hair and a beard, distinguishable mainly by his right hand, which is a large metal fist. In the original continuity of the character it is ambiguous as to whether Fisto's metal hand is some kind of removable gauntlet, or if it is a prosthetic attachment. In the 2002 continuity, Fisto's hand is much larger and unambiguously cybernetic. In both versions his fist is able to smash through rock and other hard surfaces, as well as packing more than a punch with the enemy.

And I found this YouTube clip of Fisto leaving a "sticky surprise" for Teela:

Clearly, Fisto is the greatest He-Man character ever.

I had Battle Armor He-Man and Skeletor!!! Lindy's most prized possessions, circa 1989-1992.

I was never a big collector of He-Man toys. I think I was more interested in pretending to be a mutant animal creature with ninjitsu training.

Somehow the heroes of He-Man seemed much stranger than that.

I wish I had a diabolical spider ready to do my bidding.

I wish they had set this scene in an adult movie theatre.

WAY funnier that way.

@3: I'll take a diabolical any sort of animal, as long as they did my bidding.

Decades later, I still think the battle armor thing is pretty kick-ass. Ah, how we are overwhelmed with slimy-lensed nostalgia for the imaginary blood and gore of our youth.

He-Man fraternity hijinks:

"So where's Paddlor?"

"Oh he graduated last year. You get Fisto."

"Oh sh*t."

I only had Skeletor and Man-E-Faces. Seems like everyone had Man-E-Faces, he was always on sale. What I would've given for one of those smooth, velvety Battlecats.

Oooh, I had Battle Armor He-Man and Skeletor! Unfortunately, eight-year-old me decided that BAHM was only happy in an incestuous relationship with Crystal She-Ra. Skeletor's staff and sword were promptly doled out to Glimmer and Castaspella.

What I really wanted was that goddamn Horde Trooper, just like in the She-Ra/He-Man crossover episode, where she starts out evil and He-Man shows her the error of her ways.

No love for Modulok? He was by far the best He-Man action figure. He was like having thirty figures in one, or to be exact, "the creature with a thousand bodies". Although not as humorous as Fisto or RamMan, he was the coolest of figures, and I think he's worth the most nowadays.
