There Is No Morality Without Religion, Every Child Deserves a Mother and a Father, etc.

Posted by on Tue, Apr 21, 2009 at 8:00 AM

Texas:

Two men have been sentenced to life in prison for their roles in a self-proclaimed religious movement that encouraged sex with children.

Allen Harrod, 61, and Michael Labrecque, 50, were convicted back in February of transporting minors across state lines for sexual activity. Whose minors? Their own:

The families exchanged children between 1991 and 2002. Harrod's common-law wife, Irene Hunt, pleaded guilty to taking her 7-year-old son to Texas to have sex with Labrecque's wife.

My opinion of Texas remains unchanged.

The "religion" in this case is really just an aside, made up for who knows what reason (maybe to convince themselves?).
They were no more religious than my pen is.

I'd save the "morality/religion" ones for the actual f'd up religious stories out there.

@2, you may be right that it is more impactful to specifically note stories where "established" religions violate the "morals" they supposedly support and transmit, but stories like this also ring an important warning bell. Criticizing "religion" in almost any form, is very taboo. When you can do just about anything in the name of "religion," and just write it off as "my faith," without criticism...well, that's the real threat to our nation. These people may well have been FLDS-types, and we all saw how well the prosecution of their heinous lifestyle went over (yes, folks, a religion is, in fact, a lifestyle, much more chosen than homosexuality is, even if you are one of those "nurture" whack-jobs).

Religion refers to a set of made up beliefs about a controlling power we can't control, it's likely to assume these people had that belief regardless of what type of religion they were. It's that belief that is the problem, not one specific sect.

Horrific is all I would say and I might also add that it's a good thing the death penalty is exercised in TX and while I usually shy away from being a proponent of it I know that many natives like me would not think twice of using it in inhuman cases like this in which innocents have been harmed regardless of whether the monsters are straight as an arrow or homosexuals like the countless cases of priests molesting boys or the heart wrenching case of Josh Walsh who ironically served to make him dedicate his live to stamp out this sort of monsters and for no one to go through what he went and has gone through. A true hero (and even that word falls short to describe him) far beyond any service member or any public servant because the defense of those most vulnerable in our society (children) is an act of inspired by the Almighty himself.

The U.S. Supreme Court has held that the death penalty can be applied only in cases involving murder. So Loveschild's lovely humanity-loving desire to see the defendants fry sadly can't be fulfilled.

As for the unintended consequences of Walsh...

Although in Loveschild's world, these may be intended consequences. Deviant sex!
