Last week, officers from the Seattle Police Department's Harbor Patrol were called to the Mount Baker neighborhood after two divers found a mysterious jar in Lake Washington.
According to a police report, the divers found a jar—filled with a "suspicious substance," the report says—in the mud in the lake, about 20 feet from a dock near the 2800 block of Lake Washington Boulevard, and called police.
SPD divers came out to the scene on April 13th and retrieved the jar, which they turned over to the King County Medical Examiner's office. Medical investigators quickly determined that the "suspicious substance" in the jar was in fact a human fetus.
"It’s like something you’d see at a medical school" says James Apa, spokesman for the King County Medical Examiner's office. "It was in a jar in [formaldehyde], which is how you preserve medical specimens."
According to Apa, the Medical Examiner's office determined the fetus "did not have any forensic value" and was "non-viable." Medical examiners did not perform an autopsy.
Apa says medical investigators did not determine the origin of the bottled fetus.
Forget Twin Peaks, did these kids never see Lars von Trier's "The Kingdom"?!?
