A question from a reader:

Hi. It has been a long-standing tradition for me to find a bar on Kentucky Derby Race Day (May 2) and watch it while getting slightly—sometimes heavily—drunk. I am new to the Seattle, so I am not familar with a good place to go do all this. I was looking for a place in the downtown/Belltown area. Any suggestions?

From the subject, my first thought was to ask Charles, but then I read it.

For bourbon selection, the Bookstore Bar in the Alexis hotel is hard to beat. Not sure if they have TVs for horseracing though...

Find a bar you like in your area with a tv and ask them if they'll tune it in for you. Most places are cool and would love to help you out.

Ask them at Spitfire - they seem to have lots of different sporting events - and they're in Belltown.

Gordon Biersch, last year everyone got in on the sports bettin' action. Also features copious amounts of drinking.

Would "a boozy equestriaphile" be somebody with alcohol in his system who tends to admire people who like horses?

In which case, Bottleneck Lounge on Madison seems to be having some sort of viewing party with food from Skillet (!), so pull up your jodhpurs and giddyup.

You should go to Derby Day at Emerald Downs. They televise the derby, have many bars to choose from, and you can watch real horse races all day.

I'll second the Bottleneck on Madison. They had a hell of a party last year...

@9 is right - that's where most people recommend - mind you, they work at Boeing, so it's closer.

Definitely head to The BottleNeck on Derby Day! The juleps are classic and prizes are awarded for best derby outfit and best hat. Doors at 2 -- no cover!
