I'm seeing a pattern here-- President Obama says, "Well, not gonna do anything, but here's the name and address of someone you really hate."

And then the guilty party flips out as the villagers march in with pitchforks and torches.

As a point of clarification Microsoft has been developing that new complex for the last 3 years, so just because the economy is bad wasn't going to make them cancel it completely. The fact is that Microsoft is still a large profitable company and the upper management feels like they need to give lots of perks to recruit and retain employees. Which they probably do based on the discontent you can read in anonymous employee blogs(http://minimsft.blogspot.com)

However, the lame part is that the pub was changed at the last minute to schedule events only for alcohol, and only after 3pm. I guess Microsoft doesn't really trust its employees.(http://www.techflash.com/microsoft/Micro…)

The Commons is a cross between the University of Washington's HUB, University Village and Pike Place Market.

Um, it's actually an airport mall. Exactly. Crappy expensive food, crappy services, crappy gift shops, long lines. I work in the first building opened up next door to it, and was really disappointed. Microsoft's regular cafeterias are much, much better.

Waterboarding isn't that horrific. A friend and I tried it in the bathtub with a washcloth over my head and he poured a pitcher of water over my face. A little scary, but really, it's not that bad!

He's damned if he does something and he's damned if he doesn't. Whatever, facts are facts and the people are seeing that our President is serious and taking action to cut wasteful government spending. Let the old farts gossipers keep bashing him while he keeps fixing the government.

@13: Please try it again with someone who a) does not have your best interest in mind, b) probably doesn't care if you die and c) believes that if they keep going (despite you whining) you might give up some vital intel. Oh, and possibly d) just wants to torture you because you look like the enemy.

I mean it, PLEASE try it again.

@14 - No idea what you said.

@15 - While I have no doubt that waterboarding is scary, the sleep deprivation outlined in that report sounded a lot worse. Given the choice, I'd rather be waterboarded for a couple hours than kept standing in a diaper with or without clothing for up to 180 hours.

@2 - Tommorow you will all have weed hangovers, so that makes sense. You should really just give yourselves the day off. I assume there's an office party today.

So who decides that 266 times is enough to waterboard someone? Or two someones? Is there a metric that says 265 is just not enough, and 267 is torture?

From the caption under the picture of the White House on the Guardian's website:
"Aneesh Chopra has been appointed as the US govenrment's [SIC] first chief etchnology [SIC] officer."

It's a little misleading to say a strike by SAG has been "averted", when members have yet to vote on the issue of strike authorization. It is still technically possible members could vote the contract down, in which case everything would revert back to Square One.

That being said, I think the above is a very unlikely scenario. More probable is that the contract referendum will pass with a respectable, if not exactly overwhelming, 60-65% margin.

Buy Bank Bonds!

(similar to buying War Bonds)

or, better yet, just stash your money in a credit union account where you'll get a better rate of return.

#16 - Is there really such a thing as a weed hangover? I thought only alcohol gave hangovers...
Posted by subwlf on April 20, 2009 at 10:06 AM

@22. Basically you are still a little high, your brain is a little foggy and things run slow. Dehydration can factor in, but not to the levels of alcohol hangovers do.

@25 The Murrah Bombing anniversary was actually yesterday. Thanks for remembering though. I'm from OKC and try to memorialize the attack every year in one way or another, but even I forgot this year. So, again, thanks for remembering.

@7:
I think you meant 'object'. In English it generally goes: Subject Verb Object.
But you know, subjects and objects are, by definition, nouns. (Or noun phrases).
