The apostrophe in "It's" is an exception to the English rule of using the apostrophe to indicate possession. The only time the apostrophe is used is for contractions of "it is."

Example:
"Commenter @1 is a fucking jerk. It's very obvious. The way it doesn't want to sign its name to its comments just highlights this fact."

I don't mean to sound snarky, but who was Layne Staley?

Also, the lady found at Stevens Pass reminds me of that guy who went missing a year or so ago - the one with the baby on the way, and all the work friends and church friends looking for him. Did they ever find him?

@2 it is not an exception to the rule because it is not a possessive noun. It is a possessive pronoun. No possessive pronouns use apostrophes.

Would you write "Charles Mudede decides to expand hi's power..." ?

I like Alice in Chains. Of course, I'm not from Seattle so it's more acceptable for me to say that.

RIP Layne.

So @5, what then do you call someone who calls someone else a hypocrite, then does exactly the same thing for which they just called the other person out?

Asshole? Douchebag? GOP member of Congress? Ted Haggard?

I'm just curious...

Regardless of what anyone thinks about Layne Staley or AiC:
He overdosed on heroin and was found many days after on a couch in his apartment. One could rhetorically say his demise was a form of suicide, but officially I don't think his death was ruled as such.

It's is a small typo or error. In contrast, "US/Cuban increasing relations" should have been rejected by the editor as bad grammar, bad writing and bad reporting (lacking in informative content).

Substantively, Obama is trying yet again to establish more equality among nations in the Western Hemisphere, promising to respect democracy and soveriegnty. Yet he won't prosecute torturers in his own country, so how can he be counted on to stand up for human rights anywhere else?

I believe he is afraid that if he and Holder did go after torture prosecutions the right wing would truly off them both in about two weeks.

With about 5,000,000 right wingers marching in support.

"Oh let it go it's water under the bridge" um actually it could just be fear..... "they" still run things....the change we get is very limited.

“If you haven’t done anything wrong, you have nothing to fear,” he said.

Oh great, this is what I like to hear from the FBI.

Her car was found?

But I thought that the road that she walked on was paved in gold; it's always summer, she'll never get cold; she'll never be hungry, she'll never be old and gray.

Where was she going without ever knowing the way?

If we wanted to pay what it costs to patrol half the Indian Ocean, we could do it with the Navy or privateers or whatever. If shipping companies wanted to pay to patrol half the Indian Ocean, they could pay. The whole point is that shipping goods around the globe goes from being absurdly cheap to absurdly expensive if you have to hire security. It's like an all-ages show.

These dimwit libertarians think you can get good things for free with handwaving and wishful thinking.

According to the Association of Alternative Newsweeklies the Seattle Weekly says it will be linking to stories from the Seattle Post Globe, and the new site will be doing the same with Weekly stories. In addition, the alt-weekly's sales staff will be selling ads on the new site. More on the Seattle Post Globe from the Seattle Times:

@19: A friend (who discusses multilaterally) said today that if these ships started arming up, they might incur more lawsuit liability from a mis-shot by one of their defenders than from possible Somali pirate ransoms. I suspect my friend has been turned.
