We were just talking about JG Ballard the other day...

Someone got confused and thought that he was a local writer -- due to his last name, no doubt. (grin)

Rest in Peace, sir, Rest in Peace...

I'm sure he got a lot out of watching the past few years happen. RIP indeed.

Wow. Based on the 1'34" video, I want to read those novels. Can anyone break down his recent works? Recommendations?

@9,
The only recent novel I read - which was fairly tame compared to some of his younger stuff - was "Cocaine Nights." He changed a lot as he got older, writing stories that were still very odd but both less disturbing and less visionary than the stuff from the 60's and 70's. If you really want a taste of the wildly creative and incredibly perverse mind that was J.G.Ballard I strongly recommend "Concrete Island," "Vermillion Sands" and of course "Crash." He was a master of the twisted page turner - those books will all stay with you for years. You've been warned.

I knew he had cancer - his last book "Miracles of Life" talks about it in some depth - but it's still a drag to see him go. A truly unique writer.
