If you have something to say about this sad, sad Sounders game—which we're almost certainly going to lose, considering we're ten minutes from the end and down by two goals, one of which WE ACCIDENTALLY SCORED FOR THE OPPOSITION—consider this your open thread.

Guess I can turn the game off of FSN now, while it's still a scoreless tie.

In other news, WTF is Kevin Colabero doing calling soccer when the NBA playoffs started today?

Had to let this slide the first time, but points?

We didn't play poorly, it was always going to be tough after they parked the bus in front of the goal. The own goal wasn't of the complete horror kind either.

Montero hits that chip shot and it would've ended up a lot different.

Yeah, that wasn't much of an own goal. Probably would've ended up in the net either way. The Chivas player sure celebrated like he did it himself.

The Sounders played alright. Chivas is really good.

Yep, Riley's not there and would've been in anyway.

Oh well, flash in the pan, only good players are past their prime and the young ones who are any good will leave for other leagues if they are smart

@5 is right. I think Ljunjgjbjergj (sp?) made that goal happen, if I remember correctly. He left his mark, and all hell broke loose. Chivas is one tough side.

Jacqua had a tough night. Shoot more, Nate!

Who needs a winningest team anyway. Winningest-ness isn't why I actually watched a Mariner game for the first time in years yesterday.

yeah, got in form flying all day and thought i'd let my 3 year old make up his own mind about soccer. he got bored quickly, and that's about the same time i watched them give up a second point. >I< could have blocked that kick. this is what gets everyone all excited and fucking up traffic over?

sincerely,

I don't feel too bad about this loss. Zach Thornton is the second best goalie in the league after Kasey Keller, and Chivas is an incredibly balanced and tight team. I think we faired valiantly given the opposition. Go Sounders!

Calm down. Own goals are part of the game.

I was rooting for the Sounders (well, that which remained of them after the M's finished), but it was quite impressive watching Chivas defend its 1-0 lead by playing everyone on their own side of the ball for the entire rest of the game. The strategy forced the Sounders to play extra men forward, which opened things up for the second Chivas goal. Well-played by our opponent.

Christopher, "points" are what you get in the league table, or standings, not what you score in the game. Those are called "goals", not "points". Not ever, ever, ever "points".

If you want to want a real sport with a winning team, the Vancouver Canucks play the St. Louis Blues @ 7 on Sunday.

My kid's soccer team lost yesterday, too, and Ichiro (!) had a throwing error that cost the Mariners the game last night, so I know how you feel.

I knew it. After a couple of losses, the notorious Fair-Weather Seattle Sports Fan rears its ugly head. Watch the number of soccer-related Slog posts go down after this.

Don't give up, people! Professional sports expansion teams rarely post a winning record their first season, much less have the great start the Sounders had!

@29, who's giving up? We're still in second place, with the second-best goal difference in the entire league. If we were in the other conference we'd be in first. They just need to work on a few things, and find Montero's brain, and everything will be fine. (Hint: driving straight down the middle and blasting the ball right at three defenders is not a good way to score goals).

Looking forward to playing the Earthquakes this Saturday. It'll be nice to have Keller back in.

I agree, Chivas just played a better game. C'est Dommage. Still fun to watch. Go Sounders!

For the first time this season, Sounders actually had a tough opponent. (We walloped KC for the first 30 minutes last week, and most of the second half, but it's tough to score with only 10 men). Chivas was tough -dirty, tight, and tough (just like my women!). Better to lose against them now and re-organize for later next time. Oh yeah, note to team: SHOOT THE FUCKING BALL!

Eh, there are always idiots whenever soccer comes up, Hernandez, I wouldn't read too much into that.

But yeah, if Montero had made that chip, I think things would have been much different. We had some dangerous chances that just didn't come together. Getting Keller back will be major- his experience and ability to organize the defense was missed. But it's a long season and we have plenty of time to make it all up.

My team, TFC (hey, I live in Detroit and have been a season ticket holder for Toronto since before day one) plays Chivas this Wednesday, and we know we're going to get creamed.

Far from knocking the Sounders, I'm impressed with their play and ranking so early in the season. I'm also very impressed with the coverage that the team is getting in the local press, and particularly at Slog.

It's almost enough to get me to root for them - but at best, I can say that I'll support the Sounders against any other MLS team with the exception of my dear TFC.

It's nice to see people caring about and following the game - not even the Toronto press has been that favorable, in spite of the great local support that we have for home games at BMO field.
