Re: The Shame of Seattle Times

Posted by on Thu, Apr 16, 2009 at 11:39 AM

The answer to this mystery is here, Charles, in the paper's dishonest endorsement of Mike McGavick for US Senate in 2006.

Critics will note that McGavick supports the elimination of the federal estate tax, a cause for which The Seattle Times has campaigned many years.

Yes, critics did note that.

I'm really not looking forward to the front page photos of the upcoming snowballing protests.

The Times cares about one thing. It would support the Easter Bunny if it would give them their precious "Estate Tax"(death tax as the boneheads like to call it) elimination. We know that's all they care about. What they refuse to acknowledge is that it is never going to happen. We don't want an aristocracy. I've got to cancel the fucking subscription after what I paid already for the P.I. (after they transferred me).

The Stranger isn't above dishonest endorsements itself.

I'm not running for Mayor this year.

But maybe City Council ...

Here's to the day the PostGlobe puts the Times to bed ... forever.

It's the only newspaper I ever subscribed to, and it made me sorry I did that. Bland as only Channel 4 news can match. Irrelevant. Out-of-touch. Here's to its inevitable demise.

When the P.I. ended circulation, my husband called to cancel our subscription. For the next two weeks, they kept calling to hound him and try to get him to resubscribe to the Suburban Times. They finally asked him what would get him to resubscribe (this was after they offered us the paper FREE). He said, "Throw Frank Blethen off the Space Needle for his part in torpedoing the Seattle Commons."

For some reason, they've stopped calling.

The news and editorial departments at the Times are separate. Blethen has nothing to do with what goes on the front page. If you don't believe that, ask anyone who works there ... or better yet, anyone who used to work there.

They'll also tell you that the paper gets just as many complaints from people who think the paper is too liberal as they do from people like us. Not everyone in Western Washington lives on Capitol Hill.

Oh, and if you didn't notice: They also ran a long story today on how taxes have actually decreased.

So so much for your conspiracy.

We is separate too. Our news and ownership by radical right wing extremists mean we is Fear and Unbalanced.

Buy more stuff!

@7,

There are lots of reasons to hate Frank Blethen, but failing to support the Seattle Commons isn't one of them - the Times' editorial board was one of the biggest cheerleaders for it, and Blethen stood to make a lot of money if it passed.
