The Emancipation Application

Posted by on Wed, Apr 15, 2009 at 9:35 AM

It takes over your computer and forces you off the internet!

Freedom is an application that disables networking on an Apple computer for up to eight hours at a time. Freedom will free you from the distractions of the internet, allowing you time to code, write, or create. At the end of your selected offline period, Freedom re-enables your network, restoring everything as normal.

So, it's sort of like an "off button", but, um, the computer stays on?

Or it's really more like disconnecting from your wireless network?

Or like unplugging the network cable?

Or like not opening your browser app at all?

And the only way to circumvent this Amazing New Product is to go through the time-consuming hassle of rebooting?

This is why I'll never make a fortune in the software industry - I can never come up with these brilliant solutions to earth-shattering problems like how to prevent people from using teh Interwebs.

Failblog posted a device that does something similar, though the "restoring everything as normal" part might be tricky: http://failblog.org/2009/04/13/candle-fa…
