The Mariners beat the LA Angels 3-2 in the home opener at Safeco!

USS Mariner says:

The M’s, at 6-2, have now won 10% of last year’s total. If they go .500 the rest of the way, they’ll finish 83-79, an improvement of 27 games.

The King County Prosecutor's office also announced that it won't pursue charges against Seattle Sounder Fredy Montero.

According to the prosecutor's spokesman Dan Donahoe:

The King County Prosecutor's Office has completed its review of a criminal investigation referred from the Bellevue Police Department regarding Seattle Sounders soccer player Fredy Montero. Prosecutors have determined that there is insufficient evidence to file any criminal charges in this matter

And the NFL released the 2009 schedule. More on that tomorrow.

This is how far you've come: "sports is for queers" is a completely unimaginable sentiment even a decade ago (and a completely unintelligent one now).

WOW, great opening day. No one was killed, hit with urine, blood, or flares. Even though the M's won't draw a bigger "per-game average" than the Sounders; I'm guessing more fans will be murdered, harmed, burnt, or assaulted at Sounders games than M's games this year. I know soccer fans, I just don't get the world's game.

#1 may have been joking, sarcasm is tough to detect on the interwebs.

Baseball bores me but it was fun today. Opening day, nice weather and a win, but I'm not sure that the M's are fo realz.

Damn, now my, "Sounder fans care more about winning then they do about rape" argument is void.

And I know it doesn't involve Seattle, but a man who is arguably the most vile man in sports, which is saying alot, like being the gayest guy at The Stranger, has found a gig coaching college basketball.

I haven't been following the Mariners as closely as I ought - have these wins come against inferior competition, or are they actually looking good?

sports are boring -- as in Roman times mainly a distraction of the masses by the power elite to take away attention from everything real.
As mindless as right wing christian religious idiocy, yet now that it's taking in the left, a far more effective opiate of the masses.

@6 - they're actually looking good. With so many new faces, everyone's looking for their place in the grand scheme, but yeah, so far so good. The question is if they can sustain this good start and keep winning their share of what will likely be a season of many close games

The game was really fun to watch. The M's aren't blowing away their opponents, but a win is a win. Not expecting a World Series ring or anything, but this team just looks better than it has in years, so I'm excited.

Just remember, the Rat City Roller Girls are still there.

One of my friends is sponsoring a team this year.

Now if we could just get the Sounders to give em a shout out, life would be perfect!
