Lost In Translation

Posted by Jonah Spangenthal-Lee on Mon, Apr 13, 2009 at 5:21 PM

The principal at Denny Middle School called police last week after a student reported that a bilingual aide at the school had made a series of comments about the boy's mother and instructed the student to jack off a dog.

According to the student's statement to police, the aide told the boy that the boy's mother pays him for sex, ordered the boy to "go to [the aide's] house to get an Xbox and cut some trees" and to "take care of the dogs with a sexual favor." The teacher also told the boy that he wants to live closer to him and made a series of other sexual innuendos, the report says.

The aide has been put on administrative leave and the school district and Seattle Police are investigating the incident. Seattle schools spokesman David Tucker did not know how long the aide has been with the district.

If that dog had been neutered, there would be no need for the hand-job.

This aide moonlights as a youth pastor, no doubt.

This sounds like that episode of "King Of The Hill" when Peggy kidnapped that kid in Mexico City. Although, I seriously doubt hilarity will ensue during the trial.

"cut some trees", wink wink. we ALL know what that means.

it reminds me of the monty python skit where the innocent foreigner (terry jones or michael palin) is trying to communicate to english people using--unbeknownst to him--a sadistically written naughty translation book, and getting himself cold-cocked for his sincere efforts (cleese or chapman).

Cleese is actually the foreigner in that skit, FYI.

I call shenanigans. This sounds like a bizarre combination of things a kid might think a weirdo would say, but no one would ever say. A real sex criminal would just try to abuse the kid. Unfortunately.

I did my student teaching in the Seattle district and the summer after got a call from someone I'd worked with who was a bilingual classroom aide. He spent maybe ten minutes telling me how impressed he'd been with me in the classroom, and eventually, through many segues, got to the meat of it: was I satisfied with my current projects, and if not, he was having a sales meeting in his basement, amazing opportunity, yadda yadda yadda. I declined to sign up for Amway. Which is, admittedly, not quite the same.

What? He's teaching the kid the phrases you really need to know, not all that outdated crap from the workbooks.

When I was volunteering for the Tibetan Resettlement Project in Austin back in the early 90s, one of our clients got a job in a kitchen that was otherwise staffed by Mexicans. When I asked him how it was going, he said everyone at work kept insulting him in Tibetan. I found this pretty unlikely and asked what they were saying. He told me they kept telling him to drink diarrhea - the worst Tibetan insult, "Gyak basoe". Eventually I figured out and explained they were saying, "Que pasa" and that he shouldn't take offense.

This is all very common in some cultures and the principal is being very insensitive.

@16 "This is all very common in some cultures..."

Which parts exactly? The innuendos regarding the kid's mother? Or perhaps the suggestions regarding canine affection?

And which culture is THAT where these things are common?

Because I'm not sure that culture should be fully represented, you know... here.

If it had been 'suck shit out of a dead dog's ass' I would know who we were talking about, and why they said it.

If you are trying to come on to a minor one should probably save the talk about jacking off dogs until you've made some headway in terms of seduction, unless of course the dog thing is an essential part of what you are looking for in the first place.

Oh, I'm sure he meant to say "take this progress report home to your mother and bring it back to me later".

Right?

... uh, right?

Hmm, let's google that location. Oh look, it's in south Seattle, where all the progressives without kids thought we rich people should send our kids in order to be all non-racist and equitable and shit. What a surprise!

oh my god, this could be SO funny.
it would be so funny if this guy turns out to be some person that people already hate, you know, like a mexican or a black or a homo, and there's this big media circus where he gets to be the villian... and then everybody's all "you're prejudiced" and arguing and hating.

and then it turns out the kid's just lying, like in that Southpark episode

THAT would be funny, wouldn't it?

What Big Sven (#8) said.

How would you like your life if you were a bit academically demanding and then found out you had been accused of telling a kid to jack off a dog?

The investigation should move carefully, giving consideration to protecting both the children and the possibly wrongly accused. But come on. This does not really fit the pattern of pedophile grooming procedures.

Check the manual.

I'll agree. This sounds pretty stupid. I feel like there's a lot more to uncover in this story. And I only check Slog for my news, so Jonah, get to it...

This reminds me of my own stupidity:
We go to this beach town in Mexico to surf and there are tons of stray dogs. One Pit bull, Mama Dog(SURPRISE) would wait for me on my towel every day while I surfed. I begged my husband to let me keep and her and he refused. We only had 2 dogs then.

I returned to Seattle and said F&@! It..I'm going back for the dog...took a month off work, rented a house down there, went looking. 2 days, no sign of Mama. I see beautiful Jose, a Champion Surfer Dude, 6'4" blue-eyed Mexican(most beautiful man EVER) and ask him/tell him in my broken Spanish):

"I see you you Mutli-Colored Bitch" What the F@ck did you say? he asks in perfect english, of course.
Turns out he knows the dog and another stupid Gringo who lives there year round killed it because it was a pit bull and it liked to play soccer (okay eat soccer balls).
