Glenn Beckwatch: The Comedy Tour

Posted by on Mon, Apr 13, 2009 at 3:01 PM

ee40/1239658150-glennbeck.pngYahoo says:

Glenn Beck, Fox News Channel's latest sensation, is taking a comedy show on the road for six live performances over six days during the first week of June.

Beck calls his act a "poor man's Seinfeld" and intends to mix topical humor with his modern-day reimagining of Thomas Paine's 1776 pamphlet "Common Sense."

Sadly, the tour isn't going to come to Seattle. Is Glenn Beck, then, some sort of satirist? Or does he think of himself as a newsman with a comedy career on the side? He contains multitudes. Where the fuck is he coming from? What does Glenn Beck think of when he thinks of Glenn Beck?

Poor man's nothing; Glenn Beck is filthy rich.

I didn't realize he's a (wait for it) Mormon. From Mt. Vernon, WA. Sehome HS in Bellingham -- I'll bet there's some Slog commenters who went there. How embarrassing.

Glenn Beck just LOVES america so much he needs to misguide the ignorant to help return an era of stupidity. He cries because he loves america SOOO much.

Tea party? ahhh now that was a funny idea. Maybe he is a comedian...

He's the class clown, now (supposedly) grown up. In other words, he has little talent, but an insatiable need for attention. He doesn't think much beyond his need to have an audience, which is why he reeks of pathetic desperation.

All I know is that if his routine is half as (unintentionally) funny as some of the clips from his show, maybe we should all be buying a ticket.

I am just feeling a little sorry for Bill O'Reilly. This guy totally took the conservative torch away and ran with it.

He thinks of his Garments and 8-balls. Then he thinks of the Lizard People and how much they love and respect him.

I used to listen to him on KC101 in New Haven, CT 15 years ago. He had an FM radio show with a guy named Vinny, and they were hysterical. A good show that entertained, and even seemed (gasp) semi liberal, as I remember he was trying to convince a transgender person to speak on the air about some issue. It was a big deal to me at the time.

Then I see he has come to this. I remember him leaving the show in CT not long after I had gone off to college and stopped listening. And now he's right-wing nutters. How times change.

My guess is that he thinks quite a lot about who he is, and how he comes across. The missing part is that this self-reflection isn’t born from an authentic place of wanting to know himself better, but more so it comes from a desire to shape his personality to become more profitable and/or is a desire to be known in any form (feeding his narcissism).

"What does Glenn Beck think of when he thinks of Glenn Beck?"

Frankly I don't give a shit, and I laugh at anyone willing to waste money to see what's on this guy's mind. I doubt anything that comes out of his mouth is going to be worth the air it took to produce.

The guy has nothing to say that I'd pay ten cents to hear, comedy or not. But then again, there are an awful lot of people on that particular list.

What does Glenn Beck think of when he thinks of Glenn Beck?

Glenn Beck is insane. There is no rhyme or reason to it.

This tour was the hit of my office today. A group of my co-workers are buying tickets so they can sit together. They think he is funny. "Even my wife likes him," Said Bob. They didn't ask me if I wanted to go. "I'd buy a ticket to tar-and-feather him!," I hypothetically replied.

One day Rupert Murdoch squated and shit out a Bill O'Reilly. Then he shit out a Sean Hannity. Then he pushed and pushed and finally shit out Glen Beck. Then he wiped his ass with Michele Malkin. The whole pile was flushed to FUX News dung pile. That's where it continues to stink up America to this day. The end.

When I originally read this headline I thought it was a link to an Onion article, but no, Beck is just crazy.

Wouldn't it be funny if I could whip people into a patriotic hysteria and lead a fascist revolution to restore American democracy through the barrel of a gun instead of the ballot box? Ha ha. Just kidding, folks. Wink, wink, nod nod...

I can't help but think there's some sort of 'Springtime for Hitler' vibe at work here.
Produce a show so bad that all the expenses (including the generous salary Beck pays himself) get written off as a financial loss.

What's he going to do, his Obama impersonation where he douses his audience with barrels of gasoline and sets them on fire?

I wish jackasses like Beck that call upon Thomas Paine would bother to read the Age of Reason as well as Common Sense. Then maybe they would quit trying to make us go to church.
