Reading Today

Posted by on Sun, Apr 12, 2009 at 10:01 AM

a448/1239384956-img_2440.jpg.jpgTwo events today.

At Town Hall, it's time again for Short Stories Live, in which actors read the works of great writers. Today's group of writers is the Bloomsbury Group, a society that includes D.H. Lawrence and Evelyn Waugh. You can read more about Bloomsbury here. I'm in favor of this movement.

And of course, in Seatac, it's Norwescon, the biggest sci-fi convention in the Pacific Northwest. I kind of regret not going this year. If you have any reports, please drop them in the comments.

The full readings calendar, including the next week or so, is here.

Pretty lazy of SLOG to reprint a photo from LoveLab instead of going there and photographing Norwescon attendees.

@1: That's not a reprint from Lovelab... that's from a convention from years past. I remember it from a while back... mainly because it was a strong reminder why some people shouldn't dress up in Lycra.

Is that guy in the silver panties flashing the shocker?

No, Camilla, the shocker has the first two fingers extended, the ring finger folded back, and the pinkie finger extended.

Dunno what gesture green-lycra-guy is making... The Hook-Em Horns gesture?

That's definitely the sign for 'I love you.' He must really like Rogue.

Rogue was a sweetie! And her costume made her butt look just like a target. ;-)

It was one of the best cons I've ever attended. My laughing muscles are still sore!

This year there was a HUGE steampunk turnout. The fetish fannish fashion show was awesome, as was the steampunk fashion show. People were lined up from one end of the hotel to the other to get seats!

My boyfriend's kids got to shoot giant foam-tipped arrows at a target that helpfully moved towards the arrows. They were completely stoked. And they got combat tips from a giant swordsman in the dealer's room about how to fight sneaky!

Lots of charming eye candy - from lolitas to fops. Terrifying fanged teddybears in the art show, next to automated brass flying machines.

Panel discussions about everything you can think of - alien sexuality, modifying shoes and boots for costumes, nanotechnology and Murphy's law, advanced polyamoury, porn and the internet, the idiosyncrasies of the English language, Immortality, twitter, facebook and MySpace. Ten or more tracks of programming for 4 days. My brain hurts, but in a good way.

Now to catch up on my sleep!

My Norwescon wrapup post is [here][1], and I've got a few hundred shots up in three sets in [this Flickr collection][2]. Enjoy! Or ridicule, whatever.
