Re: Twittify Him!

Posted by Paul Constant on Fri, Apr 10, 2009 at 1:38 PM

As I wrote earlier, at least one church Twittered the Passion.

Well, eagle-eyed Slog tipper Sam writes:

I was at the gym working out today, and there was a news story on CNN about some church that's putting a Passion play on with twitter. They switched to someone in the studio who was watching the feed, and I almost burst out laughing in the middle of the gym, as the top tweet was: "@Mary Magdalene: DTMFA"

The CNN woman must have known what it meant because she scrolled down as soon as she started talking about it. Anyway, just a little Savage Love connection I thought might thought you guys'd want to hear about. The twitter feed is here. I'm not sure how it relates to that other twitter/passion play you linked, but it seems they're connected.

Sam included a screenshot:

Speaking as someone who was raised Catholic: That's the most totally awesome thing to ever happen in the entire history of Catholicism. And good advice for Mary, too.

Many, many thanks to Sam.

Update: Here's a closer look and a response from the church:

Sigh... I'm an atheist, but even I find this pretty mean spirited, particularly on Good Friday... In my experience less than half of the Christians out there are homophobic. It's fine to call those folks out, but can we avoid needlessly spiting on the great Christians?

Trinity is an Episcopal church and not a Catholic one.

Still awesome.

@6:

They are still the most superstitious people on the planet. Plus, I still cannot forgive them for what they did to Giordano Bruno.

@5 - DTMFA stands for "Dump the Motherf***er already." Dan Savage regularly uses it in his column, and I'm pretty sure he coined it in the first place (I've only been reading since '06 though, so I don't know).

It was pretty amazing. Full props have to go to whoever tweeted it in the first place, of course!

@6 - I am a practicing Christian, and I can laugh at this, even on Good Friday. While it is a solemn day, it doesn't mean you have to lose your sense of humor.

I could also laugh at one of the "Breaking News" headlines on the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's website that said, "Satan Recalled by Penguins."

@6 Its just like those fuckers that insisted on attacking Edward and Bella THE DAY THE DVD WAS RELEASED! Have they no shame?

@ Sam: Yeah, that's a Dan Savage original. From the last millenium, I believe.

Unfortunately he is 40something.

When they were discussing this on CNN this morning, the screenshot had the DTMFA tweet right in the middle of the screen.

This, for some reason, reminds me of the old SCTV bit about NASA putting on a production of a Shakespeare play. For any of you ancient enough to remember SCTV. Um. I'm going to go have a bowl of Postum.

Dear Paul Constant,

I also find this awesome. Also, the fact that you were raised Catholic just makes me love you more.

Love, Jocelyn.

And here's the Facebook version of the Passover Haggadah. I never realized before how similar the Talmud is to a Facebook wall...

I think it is more fun to make fun of Jews, because they have those big crooked heeb noses and are greedy.
