Kanye West Finally Makes It Easier To Love Kanye West

Posted by on Fri, Apr 10, 2009 at 10:00 AM

So this week South Park roasted Kanye West. Here's video:

In response to the gay fish mockery, West wrote something I've been waiting to hear him express since I fell in love with The College Dropout then found myself repeatedly repelled by its maker's overweening ego. From the man's blog (bolds are mine):

SOUTH PARK MURDERED ME LAST NIGHT AND IT'S PRETTY FUNNY. IT HURTS MY FEELINGS BUT WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT FROM SOUTH PARK! I ACTUALLY HAVE BEEN WORKING ON MY EGO THOUGH. HAVING THE CRAZY EGO IS PLAYED OUT AT THIS POINT IN MY LIFE AND CAREER. I USE TO USE IT TO BUILD UP MY ESTEEM WHEN NOBODY BELIEVED IN ME. NOW THAT PEOPLE DO BELIEVE AND SUPPORT MY MUSIC AND PRODUCTS THE BEST RESPONSE IS THANK YOU INSTEAD OF "I TOLD YOU SO!!!" IT'S COOL TO TALK SHIT WHEN YOU'RE RAPPING BUT NOT IN REAL LIFE. WHEN YOU MEET LITTLE WAYNE IN PERSON HE'S THE NICEST GUY FOR EXAMPLE. I JUST WANNA BE A DOPER PERSON WHICH STARTS WITH ME NOT ALWAYS TELLING PEOPLE HOW DOPE I THINK I AM. I NEED TO JUST GET PAST MYSELF. DROP THE BRAVADO AND JUST MAKE DOPE PRODUCT. EVERYTHING IS NOT THAT SERIOUS. AS LONG AS PEOPLE THINK I ACT LIKE A BITCH THIS TYPE OF SHIT WILL HAPPEN TO ME. I GOT A LONG ROAD AHEAD OF ME TO MAKE PEOPLE BELIEVE I'M NOT ACTUALLY A HUGE DOUCHE BUT I'M UP FOR THE CHALLENGE. I'M SURE THE WRITERS AT SOUTH PARK ARE REALLY NICE PEOPLE IN REAL LIFE. THANKS FOR TAKING THE TIME TO DRAW MY CREW. THAT WAS PRETTY FUNNY ALSO!! I'M SURE THERE'S GRAMMATICAL ERRORS IN THIS... THAT'S HOW YOU KNOW IT'S ME!

My main problem with Kanye West's bravado wasn't that his brags were untrue, just unnecessary. His work provides extravagant proof of his artistic gifts, and his brags only get in the way, and made it hard for even those of us who love him to express our support. (He was so drunk with self-love he required no more from anyone else.) Here's to Mr. West for grasping the importance of shutting the fuck up, as well as for posting the offending video on his website. That's A-plus sportsmanship right there.

Yeah, loved the response and the effort at curbing his ego. Now we just need to teach him about that Caps Lock key...

I love how a celebrity not being a prissy douchebag counts as a man-bites-dog story these days.

Don't get it. West has no talent at all. He just can't sing. Never liked him.

To consider what this brother has been through in his life and the tragic loss of his mother I truly think that having a strong character is more than called for. But there will always be those that want to create confusion and will call it something else like 'bravado'. Kanye knows what his fan base thinks of him as a man no matter what some haters say.

he needs to bottle that ego and sell it to the less-confident.

i've seen him live at the 1st sasquatch, and i have one of his CDs, late graduation or something. he's unbearable. give me ODB any day of the week.

Gold Digger is one of the best singles I've ever heard, but the last few Kanye performances I've seen on TV have been excruciating. What happened? He was such an original and now he won't put down that stupid Peter Frampton Cher-bot vocoder thingy that everybody is doing.

@9 - College Dropout is a great album. "Jesus Walks" rocks, and I hate Jesus!

Now that he's trying to be open to others' opinions, somebody should really let him know he can't fucking sing and that his abuse of the robo-voice effect needs to stop. It's a damn shame because he used to make good music.

A sample of Kanye West's lyrical brilliance, from 'Jesus Walks': I need Jesus the way Kathie Lee need Regis.

South Park and The Daily Show define public opinion. TV satire is way more relevant than actual life/well-supported opinions. STRAIT UP LULZ

Mahtli69@11: ditto on "Jesus Walks", ditto on Jesus.

@16: you know that Loveschild, or at least the personality that he/she adopts here, is a black woman, right?

ALL CAPS IS THE NEW BLACK, MOTHERFUCKERS!
