About "2M4M"...

Posted by on Fri, Apr 10, 2009 at 10:31 AM

Dan brought it up earlier today: The National Organization for Marriage's push for two million supporters of "traditional marriage" in each state, a mission summed up with the hilariously unfortunate acronym 2M4M.

Which brings us to this bit of info sent in by Slog tipper Akbar:

Re: National Organization for Marriage: They want to organize this silly "2 million for marriage" march, or 2M4M. A good friend of mine actually owns the domain. 2M4M.org and is hosting a lovely stance of "two men for marriage."

The site doesn't have much yet but will have more in the future. Hopefully the URL is good enough to fool many of the idiots of NOM.

From the leaked audition tapes to their klutzy choice of acronyms, NOM is the gift that keeps on giving...Thank you, Akbar and Akbar's good friend.

fans of www.icanhascheezburger.com have to smirk at the acronym NOM, too...

are we sure these people aren't actually pro gay marriage? Everything they do is perfect satire!

When all your time is spent alternating between praying and hating, you don't pause to consider if the name of your new program sucks or not.

Looks like NOM got youtube to pull the audition tapes. Does anyone know where we can still find them?

@4. I kinda love that. A bunch of gay marriage supporters joining the march "4 marriage". It would have to be a lot of people, though. Imagine if half the crowd were gay marriage supporters...

Does it have to be rainbow flags?

@4: I think you have just given purpose to the League of Fabulous Gentlemen.

Even better, why not have every person that supports the rights of gays and lesbians to marry actually join their march, but carrying rainbow flags. Let's make it 4, 6 or 8 million for marriage - everyone's right to marriage.

I think a satire site would be more hilarious, but probably would take much more effort.

I like the picture and caption on 2m4m.org now, but I think it would be more effective if he put up some NOM-related boilerplate at the top -- not "march against gay marriage" or anything, but just some factual statements about what NOM is saying -- "NOM is planning to gather '2 million for marriage' -- here's what you need to know about that" and then let them have it. More of an outreach than a "ha-ha, tricked you" or more preaching to the choir.
