Reading Tonight

There's a lot going on tonight.

At the Henry, Valerie Casey will give a talk. Casey "specializes in helping companies and other organizations understand, shape and ultimately capitalize on their internal and external networks to address cultural, economic, social and environmental challenges with greater agility." I don't know what this has to do with the Henry, but you should totally steal that quoted bit for your resume. Not far away, at University Book Store, Jeff Lowenfel reads from Teaming with Microbes: A Gardener's Guide to the Soil Food Web, which is all about how our soil is riddled with tiny little microbes. I really enjoy the teeming/teaming play on words in the title there.

Up at Third Place Books, Stephen Wangen reads from Healthier Without Wheat, a title that simply begs for a companion volume titled Wealthier Without Heat. Over at the Seattle Public Library, Thomas E. Ricks reads from The Gamble: General David Petraeus and the American Military Adventure in Iraq, 2006 - 2008. It's weird and sad how nobody talks about Iraq anymore.

Town Hall hosts Doug Fine, author of Farewell, My Subaru. It's a book about Fine's attempt to live locally.

But the reading of the night is Dead Poets Society at the Hugo House. Living poets like Storme Webber and Brian McGuigan read the work of dead poets like Charles Bukowski, T.S. Eliot, Langston Hughes, Sylvia Plath and Gertrude Stein. They will also read new work in the style of the dead poets, who cannot produce new work because they are dead.

The full readings calendar, including the next week or so, is here.

Paul Constant, I recently dreamed that you co-wrote a novel with Danielle Steel and received $125,000.

Holy Shit, I bought that exact poster at the Galeries Lafayette in Toulouse in 1996. I gave it to my friend Jenny when I got back to the states and have regretted gifting it ever since.

Didn't you know that Obama stopped the war in Iraq? It was right after he cured racism. And AIDS.
