Argh: Somali pirates hijack U.S.-flagged ship with 20 Americans aboard.

Eastside Connection: Kirkland one step closer to annexation.

They're Here, They're Lactating, Get Used to It: Washington State legislature supports civil right to breast-feed in public.

Why Seattle Sucks in '09: Danny Westneat profiles a victim of the city.

Fuck The Police, Or Else: Medina cop investigated for sexual assault.

Oil!: Iran claims to have unearthed a lot of it.

That Seems Fair: Woman calls 911 over lack of shrimp in rice.

And finally, happy 45th birthday to Biz Markie, who I hope has a wonderful b-day celebration with Agnes, Agatha, Jermaine, and Jack.

Not China,
not North Korea,
not even Somali thugs fear the USA anymore-
why should they,
all Obama will do is whine to the UN.

Obama kissed up to Europe but was unable to get anything he wanted:
No combat troops for his Afghan adventure,
No European stimulus money.
America is as alone as it ever was,
now we are becoming weak as well.

@1 & 2,
What are you two children yammering about?

So piracy in the Gulf of Aden is Obama's fault now? Hahaha.

The news is stating the crew retook the ship back from the pirates.

Apparently, T-Mobile has decided that Savage Love is pornography because its been blocked, as of today, by the server. Not the rest of the Thestranger.com. Just Savage love.

My day just got a lot more lame.

There's bad places in Seattle and there's bad places in Detroit. If you can't do the homework on the city you insist on moving to, you probably won't be taken seriously.

@6: Umm, it's not blocked by T-Mobile. There might be a problem with your connection, but it's loading just fine on my phone (via a 3G connection).

Wanda, you can write us at webmaster@thestranger.com if you like and we'll try to figure out what's up. Lee, thanks.

@ Wanda: T-Mobile blocks pornography??? Wow, I sure am happy I didn't go with them.

This guy, from Detroit, claims to have never seen a drug deal and that he's moving back there to be safer. I'm wondering what kind of training regimen, special diet, or meditation practices it takes to get that stupid.

I should have clarified, I work at the corporate offices of T-mobile in Bellevue. They have blocked me from reading Savage Love at work because they think it is porn. I'm sure any customer who wants to access it on their phone is fine though.

@9, @11 It sounds like Wanda works for T-Mobile, so they probably use workplace firewall website filtering, like Barracuda or something similar, that is identifying Savage Love as porn.

@13: Well, it probably wasn't even their specific decision if they're using commercial web filtering software. More likely they subscribe to a list, and one that's compiled to be fairly conservative.

That said, Savage is carried online by most of the papers that syndicate his column. Try the Chicago Reader.

Genius headlines. Can we have Schmader do the morning news every day?

On the topic of insane 911 calls: I heard a few years ago that someone once called 911 to try to get Benaroya to hold a concert for her until she arrived since she was stuck in traffic.

By the way, did you notice this line in Westneat's column?:

"Capt. Steve Brown of the Seattle Police Department... said every weekend night he sends out up to 20 officers, including a SWAT team and the gang unit, just to hawk over the bar closings in Belltown and Pioneer Square."

There's a SWAT team downtown for bar closings every weekend?

@1 - actually, we're safer now than we were in the 2001-2008 period. But we do need to directly attack the source ports for the pirates, as we did WHEN WE FIRST BUILT A US NAVY AND CREATED THE MARINES ...

I need more shrimp in my rice - what's the 411 on that?

@18 - yeah, and where is a similar one for Fremont, or Ballard, or Georgetown?

I mean, last time I checked we pay taxes too!

My office blocked Savage Love on the Village Voice's site, which is how I ended up here.

I wish T-Mobile could block Will in Seattle from my Slog. I'd dump Earthlink for that. If his posts aren't obscene I don't know what is.

@18: Just like in NYC, Chicago, Dallas, Austin, Portland and most other cities. Seattle was just dumb enough to admit it. In those other places, they kinda sit their in their dark vans and watch you.

Now the crime will just avoid the vans.

A chicken in every pot and a SWAT team in every neighborhood?

@12:

Considering the extent to which Detroit has been depopulated in the past couple of decades, that might not totally be out of the realm of possibility.

Biz Markie forever! Love his Beat of the Day on Yo Gabba Gabba. I had to get up and dance to this clip. When Biz starts bouncing in his Mozart wig, I'm so happy.

Good. I tired of not being able to breast feed in public. I loves me the taste of some good breast milk!!!
