How the City Races Are Lining Up

Posted by on Mon, Apr 6, 2009 at 11:35 AM

(Edited to include mayoral candidate Mike McGinn—who announced on March 24 but apparently hasn't filed papers at the city's elections office yet—and to note that Nick Licata is the incumbent).

City Council candidate David Bloom announced today that he'll seek City Council Position 4—the seat being vacated by Jan Drago, who's retiring—leaving just four candidates who have yet to say which seat they're running for. (More people can, and almost certainly will, still get in; the deadline for announcing is June 5.) Here's how the races are shaping up so far (incumbents noted with a •):

Mayor
James Donaldson
Greg Nickels
Norman Sigler
Mike McGinn

City Attorney -
•Tom Carr
Pete Holmes

City Council Position 2
Richard Conlin
David Ginsberg

City Council Position 4
Sally Bagshaw
David Bloom

City Council Position 6 -
Jessie Israel
Martin Henry Kaplan
Nick Licata

City Council Position 8
David Miller
Robert Rosencrantz
Jordan Royer
Rusty Williams

City Council Position Not Designated
Darryl Dwayne Carter
Mike O'Brien
Dorsol Plants
Robert Sondheim

ECB, please revise to show that Nick Licata is the incumbent.

Wow. That's pretty dismissive of Mike McGuin, the only real progressive voice in the mayor's race.

That's McGinn. And, yeah, add him to the Mayor's race.

No knowing by instinct what he stands for, Mc Ginn is off to a very poor start.

I think his opening speech will taint his run to the ignominous ending.

City take over of Metro, ha ha ha ha ...

Based on prior elections, how many of these people do we figure will end up running for another position by the time we get to the Primary that most people will ignore, it being a wonderful August and we'll all be trying to forget our worries?

Hmm... may have to write in Guildenstern for position 8. Always liked him better...

Has Bloom declared position 4? SEEC has him as undeclared.

Where's Stan Lippmann? Where's Richard Lee?

Election season isn't election season without Stan Lippmann and Richard Lee....

@11: Dorsol could whip both your boys with one hand (fin?) tied behind his back.

Holmes Vs Carr? WTF? Seriously???!! What a joke! Holmes should not waste his time or money as he is not qualified, let alone eligible. But he doesn't even know that which means he hasn't even read the City Charter. What a chump!

Well Carr has been ignoring the city charter for 8 years... so perhaps they are well matched.

Both Miller and Rosencratz are claiming a Peter Steinbrueck endorsement on their respective websites. And Miller's endorsement list includes his paid fundraising consultant, Colby Underwood. How compelling.

@15 - After more than a couple people asked me (with some concern) why he wasn't on the list, I added him.

I agree that County Councilman Bob Ferguson, Earth Day Founder Denis Hayes, Lisa Quinn, Moontown Foundation's Stacey Noland, Peter Steinbrueck and a number of others in the business, environmental, and neighborhoods are much more compelling than Colby.

Peter, incidentally, has jointly endorsed for the primary so that's why he's on both web sites.
