Sounders FC Star Investigated For Sexual Assault

Posted by on Fri, Apr 3, 2009 at 8:00 AM

The Seattle PI has the scoop:

A woman called the King County Sheriff's office this week alleging that Seattle Sounders FC soccer star Fredy Montero was stalking her, two law enforcement sources said Thursday evening.

According to a law enforcement report about the incident, the 23-year-old woman told police on March 31 that she saw Montero in a car near her home in Sammamish. The report stated that she feared for her safety because Montero allegedly had sexually assaulted her in Bellevue the week before on March 22, which she had reported to the Bellevue Police Department.

Typical football Thugs.

Come on defenders of soccer! How many of you wrote the phrase "those basketball playing thugs" while the Sonics were still in town.

It's good to see rape transcends ALL sports.

Would someone please ask Frizzelle if she deserved this? I have a hard time telling when sexual assault is justified.

I'm trying to decide if Jonah's wringing his hands and giggling over this story or if it's given him a new respect for the beautiful game.

Either way, thanks for jumping all over another "PI gets the scoop" news item and getting it on the Slog, Jonah. Heck of a job.

All athletes fall into one of four categories: violent criminals, bigots, egotists, or insane.

God damn it, this is not good news. Damn it, Fredy, if this is true you just threw away about a hundred million dollars. Grr.

Let's prove that soccer is different than football in another way: don't sweep this under the rug just because he is a big, fancy pro athlete. If the case has merit, the prosecutor's office had better bring charges. None of this Huskies / Seahawks bullshit with the KC Prosecutor's office acting as guardian angels and fixers for the players.

Oh, and here we thought soccer would be nicer than all the other sports. I just can't wait until we have a soccer riot here in Seattle!!

Um.

How do we know she's not visually hallucinating? One of the most common forms of dementia involves seeing well know sports and media figures in places where they're not.

Just saying.

Shut the fuck up, Will.

Soccer isn't nicer or more polite than other professional sports- all professional sports, sadly, have these elements. That it's Fredy is distressing because he's clearly the star man of the team, but if it's true, that shouldn't be any excuse for why he's done this and I hope he's charged and punished.

Case closed, apparently. Now all I have to worry about is how we'll do tomorrow without him...

Dearest Greg- Soccer is different from American Footbal. No fans at a Seahawks game have been trampled to death, Hasselbeck hasn't been shot or hit with a flair while calling plays. Seahawks don't writhe in pain on the ground, get carried of on a stretcher, then only return to the "pitch" moments later running around, mullets flowing in the wind.
However, this will be THE year that soccer catches on in America, right?

@6: or if on the Seahawks, they are theocratic Republican dickheads, like the ones who hung out with GWBoogerbrain in Bellevue.

So lets get this right.

The Stranger, 4 days after this news story broke, post that the PI has the scoop on this breaking news story! Rabid idiot slog commenters (see above) post ignorant comments. Then the one smart commenter corrects The Stranger that the case is closed and the charges dismissed because it probably never even happened. Wow. Top notch, team.

"Sheriff's spokesman Sergeant John Urquhart tells KING 5 News there was a stalking accusation made but that it has been dismissed.
According to Urquhart, it was all a coincidence. He says Montero was a passenger in a car that stopped near the woman.
The case has been closed.
KING 5 News has learned Montero and the woman have had a relationship for some time."
