British Sex Education

Posted by on Thu, Apr 2, 2009 at 8:32 AM

Man, I wish I'd gone to a British high school...

Nude male models showed off their anatomy in the gym, while a live feed allowed the students in the main hall to study the bodies and ask questions, The Evening Post reported.

The students used their new knowledge when they took part in a sexual activity workshop. Topics covered included sexual hygiene and differences in each person’s body.

“I learned more from this than from my previous sex education classes,” said student Tom Harvey, 16. “It was really interesting the way they taught us about everything. It was practical and made it more understandable.”

Wow, sex education that is about education and not indoctrination into a body-hating, sex-negating guilt-ridden festival of shame. What a novel concept.

I'm willing to bet that kind of education doesn't lead to more sex (not that I would really care), but more safe, sane sex, which is what sex ed should be about.

Pretty interesting and, I'm sure, effective way of doing things.

My understanding is that English sex education was quite different back when you were (ahem) high school age. You could rethink the wish a little.

This is horrible. Each and every one of those students will now get pregnant with out being married, they will become pedophiles, homosexuals, perverts, thiefs, kleptomaniacs, and tax evaders.

We can't be having that sort of sex education in America where every child has a mother and a father and where Church youth pastors are pure and protective of their flocks!

In a sane world, this wouldn't even be notable.

I hope they taught them about saddlebacking.

Actually, each of these children will now go out to the pub, pour eighteen pints of lager down their gullets, and have unprotected sex standing up in the city center while their partner bends over and vomits. It's the British Way.

In Austria all of the "teen-beat" type magazines dedicate their centre pages each month to naked pictures of teenagers. The teens are just standing there, not being sexual or anything, and they look normal. Then there is an article about sex, puberty, fashion, whatever.

It was shocking for me to see this at first, but then it made a lot of sense. Teens there are used to seeing naked people and have more realistic body expectations- there is so much less shame surrounding their bodies. Also, it provides some non-scarring, age appropriate masturbatory material! Go Austria!

I'm reminded of a scene from "Bedazzled" where Elizabeth Hurley is teaching a class of young men while she's wearing a very short skirt. You never saw guys pay closer attention in class!

Personally, I find this more than a bit ridiculous. Why should teenagers be taught that indecency is normal? If anything, they should be taught that being civilized and decent is an essential part of society. Talking and showing pictures is one thing, however this is simply going overboard. This is promoting public indecency and giving children the idea that it is OK to be promiscuous.

I'm a reasonable person, I'm willing to teach students about alternatives and such. But this is simply too radical and out of control. I thought England was supposed to be a part of western **civilization**. (note emphasis on civilized)

Also, the core problems are a lack of personal responsibility and poor parenting. Children should have it ingrained in their minds that sexual activity is a terrible and irresponsible decision before a certain age. We shouldn't aim for more safe sex, we should aim for less sex period.

Dan,

You may come to my high school; I have a mustache and can demean you whilst snapping you lightly with a can and calling you a dunce. While it's not *in England* per se, I'm keeping the spirit alive. You may, if you fancy, bring 2 or 3 friends along who also long for abuse and staying after.

And even this extreme ed is better than the info we studied about the reproduction of plants, bees and birds! Bravo to the school for trying to do it's job! But I really wonder what kind of men want to expose themselves to children?
