The Welfare State is collapsing in a bonfire of violence.

Candidate Obama could score cheap popularity points with Europe by bashing Bush.
President Obama is finding that rhetoric doesn't make the world's problems go away.
He will find that he is a tough act for himself to follow.

You can buy tix today to Milan from Seattle for only $329.

Seriously.

Now that is a European Vacation!

(and one I highly recommend - but don't stay in Milan - too expensive, hop on train and go to Firenze (Florence) instead and stay near the train station there at a B&B - email them direct for best rates)

@4:
President Obama is finding that rhetoric doesn't make the world's problems go away.

Indeed, America is finding out that rhetoric (however eloquent) doesn't make a good president.

"no one needed those jobs, anyway" @3: Obama's new CEO at GM seems to be making good progress.

Dear Slog, doesn't WordPress or whatever blogging software you use have some kind of registration feature? Because I can't tell you how annoying these snarky, disposable, per-post bylines are.

WTF? Why haven't I heard of the payroll stimulus before? Am I blind? You'd thinking most people getting $400 extra from payroll tax credits would be bigger news.

@14: I've heard it mention multiple times in news stories, usually in the form of "You'll be seeing an extra $15 or so in your paychecks!"

Also, this has already gone into effect for many people, check your paystub.

@ 8, it's still an almost immeasurable improvement over his predecessor.

@14:

These were announced at least two months ago, and in fact, I've been seeing the "little something extra" in my paychecks since the beginning of March.

It'll only end up being about $8 per check on average, so don't get your hopes up too high, but still, I'll take every penny I can get right now.

@18: No, it doesn't take two months to govern. A president can wreck havoc from day one.

Two months is long enough to give some indication that you have a plan.
Two months is long enough to staff the Tresury Dept when the nation titters at the edge of financial collapse.
Two months is long enough to take some principled courageous stands and policy changes on gay rights.
Two months is long enough to act on your bold campaign promises about ending the war.
Two months is long enough to get two arms and a foot buried in a pair of tarbabies called Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Two months was more than long enough to run up a $2Trillion deficeit, money our great grand children will be paying off.

Obama is a nice guy.
He is just in over his head and it is an unfortunate time to be breaking in a novice.

@ 28, you're in over your head.

Appointments take a while to get through the Senate.
Obama didn't run on a gay rights platform.
He's sticking with the plan our gov't negotiated with the Iraqis.
Uh, Afghanistan and Pakistan are Obama's fault how?
The GOP likes huge ass deficits too
