America's Next Drag Superstar Begins Her Reign

All hail Bebe Zahara Benet, the real-life African Queen who won top honors in the (awesome) first season of RuPaul's Drag Race. The image above is, of course, Bebe's Greg Gorman-shot ad for L.A. Eyeworks. (Here's RuPaul's L.A. Eyeworks classic.)

Still to come for the triumphant Bebe, as the WoW Report reports: $20,000 from Absolut vodka and MAC cosmetics, a fashion spread in Paper magazine, and a headlining gig on the Absolut Pride tour. (No word yet on other components of the tour, but last year's bill featured Cyndi Lauper, Joan Armatrading, and the B-52s, and was surprisingly awesome.)

YAY! Bebe!!! Nice. Love the show!

David I believe the Absolut Tour is put on by LOGO just for the drag queens, Cyndi's is done by HRC. Here is info on the drag dates:

It's like 5 dates! No Seattle! Boo to that!

Cyndi's True Colors tour is put on by LOGO and HRC.

The one with drag queens is the Absolut Real Fruit Tour.

cheers!

Hurrah! I was sad to think Bebe was doing only the drag-specific run, as one of the things the True Colors tour lacked was an awesome drag queen host to hold the whole thing together (we got Carson Kressley, who was okay). But getting an amazing entertainer with something to prove, who knows they've been granted an amazing opportunity? That would be something to see....

Yip, I liked Nina Flowers better but congrats to Bebe. They both were the most gracious and polite contestants. Some of the others were mean and way too catty! Especially on the reunion show when a couple let their real feelings all out.

I don't get the fascination with drag. It's boring.

how they got to Seattle I have zoned out - but - the B 52's were totally on and ROCKED the house

JOAN was also great - just not the balls to the wall rock stuff the 52s did

As they say, good times!!! ( hot date helped )

Let's buttfuck and cut off our dicks and get boob jobs and take female hormones and force everyone to think it is something wonderful that should be publicly celebrated at every opportunity.

@10, drag queens typically neither cut off their dicks or take hormones. Buttfucking? Well, I wouldn't know. It's certainly not part of their routines. And drag, of course, isn't even necessarily gay; I've been known to do it myself sometimes, pretty sloppily I admit.

They replayed the finale and the post-finale reunion all weekend on VH1, and, uh, the AD CAMPAIGN FEATURING THE WINNER came out this week. Spoiler warnings no longer apply.
