Seriously?

Posted by Dan Savage on Tue, Mar 24, 2009 at 3:47 PM

Guess who's giving the GOP response after Obama's press conference tonight.

Kenneth the Governor.

The definition of insanity, says Barb at Kos. Here's hoping that volcano in Alaska—the one our federal government is wasting your money monitoring—blows again during Jindal's response.

Yeah, his speech is happening before the press conference, at a completely unrelated event. But still, I don't know why the Rs want him to headline anything.

Would you liked to be spontaneously rain upon with ash?

Dammit. I meant "rained".

Can someone drop him into an active volcano, either with or without his sweater?

Parachute optional, of course.

Maybe he can make one from the AIG bonus money.

The more he's associated with the leadership of the Republican Party, the happier I am. The man is a total tool.

Okay, I agree Alaska got way too much federal money through our former corrupt senators. But our current senators are 1 Dem + 1 Rep and far younger and smarter than our old ones.

More germaine, on tracking Mt Redoubt's ash plumes: there is a huge amount of air traffic in the area. Cargo routed through Anchorage and passangers on polar routes all pass in range and well below the altitude of the ash plumes. Jet engines don't do well when glazed with volcanic ash.

How much have we spent in response to four mostly empty airplanes going down 7 years ago? Tens of billions, easily, not counting Iraq. Let the geologists have a few million that could protect 350 people in a 747 at 41,000 feet.

Oh Dan! Ohhhhhh Dan! I am so geared up for your mayoral campaign. I've been combing the Slog archives for your best writings. I want the citizens of Seattle to know the real Dan Savage. Compassionate, thoughtful, empathetic, generous, OH Dan!!! I can hardly wait for the campaign to begin. I'll be there for you Dan. I'll be there for you every day promoting your past musings on matters large and small to the citizens of Seattle.

Must I report my expenditures to your campaign if we don't collude on the message?

You cannot waste money monitoring volcanos.

Ask the people of Herculaneum whether volcano monitoring is a waste of money.
