Insomnia Midnight Bus Poetry

You are usually so late
Like a dream, I run to catch you
Yet I never run fast enough
But awake I am
Stinging twist of ankle
Eating shit on pavement
O, what a nightmare
I have no insurance
Wow, my knee is really fucked up
O well, at least
The bus stopped for me

I was sitting on the bus,
Not making any fuss,
When the driver said to me,
"Hey!you back there,
With the beard and the hair,
You come up front and see."
So I looked around,
There was no one to be found,
So I figured he was talking to me.
So I stood to walk,
To the driver to talk,
To see what there was to see.
Well,that driver he said,
With a shake of his head'
"Say,why do you trust in me?
I'm drunk as a skunk,
And that ain't no bunk,
And I've lost my ability.
To drive this bus,
So I'm makin this fuss,
Say,could you please point out the road?
Could you grab the wheel,
Cuz I've lost my feel,
And I'm soon to lose my load?
Is it left or right?
Is it day or night?
Well shit!I used to know.
Did you ring that bell?
And oh how well,
I used to know this route.
We'd be there in a hurry,
With hardly a worry,
And say,could you spare me a toot?"
About that time,
He was out of his mind,
Cryin out for something to drink.
So I jumped off the bus,
Without makin no fuss,
But then I heard a 'clink'.
Well,that driver was toastin,
With a fellow who was boastin'
That HE used to drive.
They was shakin their heads,
And then they said,
"We gonna get back,
To the big bus shack,
Hope we don't come to no harm.
We gonna find our way'
Even if it takes all night and all day'
Cuz we gotta get back to that Barn."
