Wasn't Stamper Chief during the '99 debacle? I like the guy, but the handling of the protests was shameful.

Is that bailout money or stimulus money that the asshat SC governor rejected? 'Cuz they're different things and it would be good not to confuse them. The article says "stimulus".

I love news without dates attatched to them.

This enables a couple of things... and just what are things?

Well, if you are an aspired failed format director for a now defunct writing chamber, you could always plead stupidity.

Why Stupidity... as a failed actuary advisor, you could claim dizzy fuzzy headedness from all the stress of the chemical imbalance provided by your mis-calculation from NOT SEEING THE DATE ON THE NEWS STORY AS YOUR BOSS JUMPED OUT THE WINDOW
SCREAMING AT YOU TO UPDATE THE FILE FOOTAGE FOR THE PILL AD!!!!

Of course, I got all that ranting inspiration from NOT signing on to Frank's e-paper blog space because I prefer to go to The Stranger and be one of the mainstream fringe elements of the uber-hip.

And just is one of the uber-hip?

Why, we are those people who now for a fact that international blood-letting brings about high performance satellite testing apparatus en-mass to challenge the authority of sanity and shones.

And just what are shones...

Why it's a side effect of "showing" the after market productivity exclamation pointers on PORN....

Why KELLY O is NOT A BAD PERSON.

Webmaster.... please provide a click path analysis so Mr. Savage doesn't lose revenue before sending a complimentary bottle or carrot to whom ever is in the no(!).

"I've noticed that middle eastern men have very strong opinions about what constitutes normal male appearance and behavior. Given their proclivity for terrorism and decapitations, I would advise everyone to give them a wide berth."

"Man! Does this mean that if a queer accosts me and tries to take advantage of me and I slug him, I can be charged with a "hate crime"?"

"The attacker sounds like he may be Muslim."

"Did the savage actually know his victim was sexually disoriented"

Stay classy, Seattle Times commenters.

Depressing news about the abandoned dogs in Spain. I thought the Brits were genetically predisposed to be notoriously good to their animals. It's one of the many things I love about the UK.

I can't imagine abandoning a dog regardless of economic circumstances - I mean, if there's any love there at all, right? The worst case scenario is you'd find your animal a good home. But leaving it at the side of a road or shut up in a house with a bit of food and water - that kind of cruelty is impossible to rationalize. What kind of person is comfortable with the idea of disposable pets?

And the Brits who abandoned their dogs were on holiday in Spain yet abandoned their dogs because of finances? I don't know about you, but when my cash is running short, I don't go on holiday. I guess I don't get it. I guess I don't want to either.

18: A lot of them lived there, from what I understand, attempting to live off of savings or whatever, or having second homes there that they got before things crashed. And the UK's quarantine laws for pets is really strict so they have problems bringing the dogs back to the UK, I guess. But it's still reprehensible.

@18,

I especially hate it when they lock the pets up in the house. Americans have been doing that too, leaving their pets in foreclosed homes. At least give the animals a fighting chance for fuck's sake. Don't lock them up to die of thirst or starvation.

And in other news, Seattle wine thief Erica C. Barnett was tried and convicted of shoplifting and sentenced to life imprisonment, err... I mean, eight hours community service. Her colleagues, not at all stunned by this development, quickly came to her aid and defended her actions. A source inside the Stranger reports that the entire staff will be celebrating her conviction at a private gathering where they will drink shoplifted $8.99 red wine.

@21, I know what you mean, keshmeshi, but I absolutely hate that so many people think they're giving their pets a "chance" by shoving them out of the car on highways or in "nature areas" and masturbating their egos with the notion that someone will take them in. Thousands upon thousands of abandoned pets die of disease, exposure, starvation, predation, further cruelty from humans, etc.

Anybody in financial straits with no other solution OWES it to their pets to take their last $500 and give it, with their pet, to an animal shelter. Yes, before they feed their kids or themselves. You can always go to a soup kitchen. If the shelter is overflowing, the only honorable, decent thing to do is pay a vet to euthanize your pet WITH YOU HOLDING IT WHILE IT DIES. If you can't even do that, you're a worthless fucking piece of shit. END OF STORY.

This is slog and anything that some intern or poster pulls out of their ass is thrown out there.

Didn't Palin just cut the budget for special needs kids and education?

Maybe we could get South Carolina's stimulus money for the viaduct and 520. Bayt Nickels and Simms will have to ask for the money personally since Gregoire and Chopp obviously hate Seattle.

"Consumer Civilization" (p. 186, The Book of Embraces, Eduardo Galeano):

Sometimes, at the end of the summer when the tourists left Calella, you could hear howls coming from the forest. They were the cries of dogs tethered to the trees.

The tourists used the dogs to relieve their loneliness during their vacation, and then, when the time came to leave, tied them up deep in the woods to keep them from following.
