Going Backwards

The saddest news of the day:

Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has reason to smile: His opponents in this June's presidential election appear to be in some disarray. Former President Mohammed Khatami withdrew from the race late Monday...
I was certain Ahmadinejad would not survive the post-Bush era. Now my certainty is melting into the air.

*sigh* and you're always so certain of things too.

Theocracies won't follow logical or reasonable paths. Just the opposite. I predict that Isreal, another theocracy, will strike Iran's nuclear facilities and the U.S. will be dragged in.

so was Erica's shoplifting case dismissed?

or isn't that the saddest news? ECB getting cited for stealing red wine from QFC?

Charles,
I think the saddest news of the day is the last printed issue of the Seattle P-I. It's the end of an era. Well, at least I have a copy.

No worries. It should be fairly easy to swap Fred Armisen in once Ahmadinejad is reelected.

At least Dick Cheney isn't running. Because, you know, there's a limit to how much fascism even the Iranians will put up with.

This is a good thing. The less moderate candidates there are, the less posssibility they will split the vote.

If you had read beyond the first two sentences of the article, you would see that Khatami is dropping out and supporting another Reformist, so that the two of them don't end up splitting the vote in June. The other guy is a former hardliner who is thought to have a better ability to siphon votes off of Ahmadinejad. If anything, the chances of getting a better President have increased.

I hear we have four candidates running as Democrats for KC Executive - but only two are long-time Democrats, and the other two used to be Republicans before the Socialist Republican Party went off the deep end.

Moderate in Republican terms means they only hate America half of the time.

khatami is dropping out for a CENTRIST - not a reformer.

khameni has decided what the parameters of islamist democracy will allow.
